I love this idea! Usually I like to make banana bread with my over ripe bananas. I think using simple ingredient like this to make well loved foods allows for a proper balance. @beh353#beh353
@paige_fairbanks@beh353 I agree! I know have a better understanding of the impact of fad diets. Prior to looking into them I always thought they were beneficial, however this is not the case. @beh353#beh353
As a future dentist I will incorporate nutrition by emphasizing that diet and oral health is bidirectional. They both have a great impact on each other and the overall health of an individual. @beh353#beh353
@PrachiP613@EmmaDArpinoRD@beh353 This was also something I found intriguing as well. We are so focused on the negatives of processed foods but forget how not all are as bad as they seem. They allow for efficiency. @beh353#beh353
The nutrition behind energy is something I would love to know more about. It’s hard to decide if they are actually good for you since certain brands market their drinks as being beneficial. Most of the time they are just filled with sugar and bad ingredients! @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD thank you so much for your lecture this week! One thing I learned was how important nutrition education is and getting to know dietitians in the area to better help patients. Being able to consult with dietitians allows for a wholistic approach. @beh353#beh353
@PrachiP613@beh353 This article was interesting and very easy to read. Eating right during pregnancy is an important topic that people should be aware of. @beh353#beh353
This is such a great idea! When I was a kid I hated eating vegetables and the only way I would do it was if I was given an incentive. This is a fun and appealing way to encourage healthy habits @beh353#beh353
This article was easy to read and provides factual information about child nutrition. It provides unique ways to encourage healthy eating habits which is important because kids can be picky and not opt for healthy foods right away @beh353 #beh353 https://t.co/IQGvE2YX9A
personally I have started planning my meals. as a busy student this has made it easier for me to eat healthy while keeping my meals quick and simple! @beh353#beh353
@PrachiP613@beh353 great way to put it!! it’s important to first be aware and then take action accordingly. if more healthcare providers were aware they would be able to address the issue effectively @beh353#beh353
the articles mentions that the emotional costs of obesity are incalculable- doctors are seen to show less emotion rapport to these patients. As future healthcare providers it’s important to not judge a patient by how they look and support them fully @beh353#beh353
One thing I have always wondered but not known much about is the benefits of sea salt vs normal salt. Is sea salt a more nutritious option? I always see this on nutrition labels often but never looked into it. @beh353#beh353
Finally warm around here! That means we'll wrap up our salt works for the season.
Through the winter, we use a lot of wood heat, and humidify with seawater. The result is, of course, sea salt.
@tiana667@beh353 I like how you mention to not make judgments about someone’s appearance. It’s easy to make assumptions based on what we see but that’s not always the case. This can be seen occurring in obesity cases often @beh353#beh353
one thing that was new to me was how lack of sleep contributes to obesity. Initially I wouldn’t guess these two are related. this can be incorporated in my future by emphasizing the benefits of sleep even on aspects that we may not even think are related. @beh353#beh353
This was very interesting to read. I never use a thermometer to check if any of my food was cooked. I tend to overlook healthy cooking methods if my food and just go for what “looks” done. @beh353#beh353
Did you know that only 1% of participants in a recent study used a food thermometer to check that frozen corn was properly cooked? Use a food thermometer to make sure frozen veggies, like corn, reach a safe internal temperature of 165°F before eating. #FoodSafety
@EmilyBullen10@beh353 I agree! Oftentimes eating can become a social acitivity. During these times it is not a priority to find places that are healthy. I am guilty of going out to eat rather than staying home and cooking nutritious meals. @beh353#beh353
One barrier that I encounter is lack of time. After class and studying I have no energy or time to make healthy food. I often go for something quick that I can put in the air fryer or microwave. My go to would be grilled cheese- for sure not the healthiest! @beh353#beh353
This is something I will defiantly be trying. I love to eat ice cream but it can get so sugar heavy and unhealthy. Making my own soft serve is a clean and more nutrient dense alternative. @beh353#beh353
