Over the past three days, #IamAPHRC co-hosted theย #Evidence2ImpactSymposium2026 in Nairobi, bringing together more than 300 participants, including researchers, policymakers, practitioners, youth leaders, and development partners from over 20 countries to advance adolescent-centered policies and programs across Eastern and Southern Africa.
The symposium reinforced a critical message: generating evidence is only the first step. Real impact happens when research informs policy, shapes programming, influences investment decisions, and responds to the realities of adolescents' lives.
During APHRC's technical session on ๐๐๐ฒ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐๐๐: ๐๐ก๐ฒ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ ๐๐ข๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ก๐๐, conversations demonstrated that early adolescence is a critical time of transition, and therefore an opportune time for early intervention.

The ECD Data Visualization Platform project team has successfully concluded the county-level co-creation engagements and has now moved into the sub-county phase in Isiolo County.
The team is currently working closely with local stakeholders to co-design a platform that responds directly to the countyโs unique data and decision-making needs. The discussions have been focusing on critical areas such as data requirements, existing ICT infrastructure, and the anticipated challenges in strengthening monitoring systems to address context-specific gaps in Early Childhood Development (ECD).
Isiolo presents a distinct context marked by high poverty levels and limited access to essential services; factors that significantly influence service delivery and, by extension, ECD outcomes.
These realities, as captured in this video, were central to the conversations, underscoring the importance of designing responsive, context-sensitive data systems that can inform equitable planning and action.

Like the "Black Death", morbidity and mortality from infectious diseases such as diarrhea and cholera are common in Africa, especially in low-income settings.
#IamAPHRCโs @phylis_busienei , Innocent Tumwebaze, John Agira, Dennis Musyoka, and @Shyillah explore how preventing infectious diseases goes beyond outbreak response and demands attention to the conditions in which people live, work, and access essential water and sanitation services.
Drawing on APHRC's research across Kenya, the article highlights how poor water quality, inadequate sanitation, unsafe waste management, and poor hygiene continue to fuel the spread of infectious diseases. Through laboratory and field-based research, APHRC is generating evidence to better understand transmission pathways and inform practical solutions for healthier communities.

What if the causes of childhood diarrhea go beyond contaminated food and water?
In Kenya, diarrhea remains one of the most common illnesses affecting children, yet its persistence points to a much bigger challenge.
As explored by @phylis_busienei , Innocent Tumwebaze, John Agira, Dennis Musyoka, and @Shyillah in ๐๐๐ฒ๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐๐๐๐: ๐๐ก๐ฒ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ ๐๐ข๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ก๐๐, the drivers of diarrheal diseases are deeply interconnected, spanning human behavior, environmental contamination, animal management practices, and access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene.
Drawing on evidence from #IamAPHRC's research in Kenya, the article highlights how environmental contamination, animal management practices, sanitation, and human behavior collectively shape disease transmission, and why a One Health approach is essential for lasting solutions.

The global health landscape is facing significant uncertainty. Shrinking funding, coupled with growing geopolitical fragmentation, is reshaping how health systems are financed, governed, and sustained.
What does this mean for health security in Africa? More importantly, how can African institutions, governments, and partners build resilient and shared health security systems in an increasingly complex world?
APHRC's @amveyange will join the upcoming Africa Roundtable edition hosted by Global Perspectives Initiative to discuss pathways for strengthening health security and advancing collaborative solutions for the future.
Stay tuned for more insights from the discussion.

A healthy diet depends on more than just producing more food. Across Africa, food environmentsโthe places where people buy and consume foodโplay a critical role in shaping nutrition, health, and wellbeing.
#IamAPHRCโs @Kathina_Mwalia , @Hope_Shete , and @AntoninaNamaem1 , emphasize how essential transforming food environments through stronger policies, safer food systems, and evidence-informed interventions is to tackling the growing burden of diet-related diseases across the continent.
Improving nutrition today is no longer about producing more food, but transforming the environments in which people make everyday food choices.
