Hello Lola, I am a Muslim, and our spiritual tradition has a very deep approach to raising children. I want to share some tips from our scholars that will be beneficial to you regardless of your faith.

First of all, our theology teaches the concept of Fitrah. This means that every child is born with a pure heart. At six years old, she is not a criminal mastermind. She does not have a wicked soul.

If she doesn’t have all these, then what is happening? The truth is that she is just lacking impulse control and testing boundaries. By this, if you look at her as a manipulator, you will fight her. However, if you look at her as a pure soul making mistakes, you will be able to guide her.

Secondly, for every problem anyone faces today, it has been solved in history. The only problem is how to locate them.

A classical scholar named Al-Ghazali wrote about child psychology over 900 years ago in his famous book “Ihya Ulum al-Din.” In his section on disciplining children, he gave a practical rule I want you to adopt going forward.

He advised that parents should never push a child into a corner where they are forced to lie. When you ask a question you already know the answer to, her survival instinct kicks in. She cries and she lies to defend herself because she is scared of you. Stop interrogating her. Just look at her and state the fact. Say, I know you took this, and we are going to return it right now.

Again, another scholar and sociologist Ibn Khaldun addressed this exact behavior in his masterpiece titled: “Al-Muqaddimah.” He warned that when a child is raised with harsh punishment, they learn deceit, trickery, and lying to protect themselves. This is why she is covering her tracks and crying to manipulate you. The fear of a harsh reaction is making her a better liar.

Lola, do not attach a label to her. Do not ever call her a thief. If you attack her identity instead of her action, she will internalize it and grow into that dark label. Tell her the action is wrong but protect her dignity.

Make her return the item. Do not fall for the tears. Hold her hand, walk her back to wherever she took it from, and make her hand it back and apologize. The discomfort of returning a stolen item teaches a much better lesson than beating her will ever do.

Finally, I don’t know if you are a Muslim, but never underestimate the power of your own words. In our faith, we believe the prayer of a parent for a child goes straight to God without any barrier. Pray over her. Pray for her heart to be content and for her character to be straight.

Keep doing this consistently and the habit will break.

FG Releases N2.3 Billion to Universities, Moves to Ensure Sustainable Education Reforms

The Federal Government has disbursed ₦2.31 billion to federal universities to clear outstanding arrears owed to academic and non-academic staff, signaling renewed commitment to stabilizing Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the funds were processed through the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and that universities would begin to receive payments immediately.

He emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to transparent, long-term reforms that guarantee staff welfare and financial sustainability. The administration is also finalizing the release of third-party deductions and pension remittances to NUPEMCO.

The government announced that Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) will be fully integrated into university salaries by 2026 to ensure prompt and predictable payments, while funding for the Needs Assessment of Nigerian Universities project has also been sustained.

Alausa affirmed that all engagements with ASUU and other unions are being conducted in good faith, stressing that agreements will remain within realistic budgetary limits to maintain stability in the education sector.

This follows ASUU’s decision to suspend its two-week warning strike after renewed talks with the Federal Government.

Under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria’s education sector is witnessing a steady transformation anchored on accountability, inclusiveness, and sustainable investment in human capital. His administration’s consistent actions reaffirm its belief that quality education is the cornerstone of national development.

Nigeria Achieves Major Milestone as FATF Removes Country from Global Financial Crime Watchlist

According to Reuters, Nigeria has been officially delisted from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, marking a significant breakthrough in the nation’s ongoing reforms to strengthen financial transparency and combat illicit financial flows.

The FATF announced the decision after its plenary meeting in Paris, citing Nigeria’s improved inter-agency coordination, stronger financial oversight, and enhanced anti-money laundering systems.

Experts say the move will boost investor confidence, ease cross-border payments, and lower borrowing costs for Nigerian businesses and households. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that countries on the FATF watchlist lose about 7.6% of foreign capital inflows, meaning Nigeria’s removal will likely attract fresh investments and international partnerships.

This achievement highlights the President Tinubu administration’s commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline, and global cooperation, reinforcing Nigeria’s image as a credible and reform-driven economy.

FG Launches Digital Treasury System to Boost Transparency and Revenue

The Federal Government has introduced a new digital system to track and verify all payments made into national accounts, marking a major milestone in public finance transparency.

The innovation, called the Federal Treasury Receipt (FTR), provides a unified, digitally verifiable proof of all payments to the government. It works alongside the Central Billing System (CBS) under the Revenue Optimisation and Assurance Platform (RevOp), which became operational on August 1, 2025.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the platform offers real-time visibility of funds across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), ensuring full automation of revenue sharing while minimizing leakages and human interference.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, described the reform as “a new era of transparency and accountability,” emphasizing that every kobo due to the government will now be traceable and reconciled digitally.

The system is currently in a 30-day pilot phase across ten agencies and will later be rolled out nationwide. It also sets the groundwork for the National Revenue Service (NRS), expected to take off in January 2026 to unify and modernize revenue collection in Nigeria.

FG Targets 20,000 Jobs Annually as VP Shettima Launches Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme 2.0

The Federal Government is set to create at least 20,000 jobs annually with the launch of the second phase of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP). Vice President Kashim Shettima will officially unveil NJFP 2.0 on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in Abuja. The event will also feature a High-Level Policy Dialogue on Job Creation themed “From Skills to Jobs and Enterprises: Driving Youth Employment and Entrepreneurship in Key Economic Sectors.”

Ahead of the launch, the Vice President inaugurated the Project Steering Committee, urging members to ensure inclusiveness and equitable participation across all regions of the country.

Since its inception in 2021, the NJFP has empowered over 14,000 Nigerian youths through paid 12-month fellowships, bridging the gap between academic qualifications and practical work experience. Supported by a €44 million grant from the European Union, the initiative continues to enhance youth employability and strengthen Nigeria’s human capital base.

The Tinubu-led administration has also introduced complementary initiatives such as the Labour Employment Enhancement Programme (LEEP), the National Job Centre Project, and free business registration for 250,000 youth-led enterprises, all designed to drive inclusive growth and reduce unemployment.

These efforts reflect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to empowering Nigeria’s youth, creating jobs, and building a sustainable, innovation-driven economy.
