Ukrainian fencer Yulia Bakastova has defeated a Russian fencer Sophia Velikaya, who also a major in the Russian army) at a tournament in Tbilisi.
Velikaya was a trusted person of Putin at the 2024 "elections" in Russia and has been on Ukrainian sanctions list for her connection with the Russian army.
Despite that, International Fencing Federation allowed Velikaya and 40 other Russian and Belarus athletes to participate in the world championship with a "neutral" status.
Ukrainian Fencing Federation has issued a protest regarding these athletes being allowed to compete.
