Motorola heard you like big cover screens (apparently), so it leaned even harder into the biggest thing setting its RAZR apart from the competition.
Twenty years after the debut of the original RAZR (and nearly five years after its first flip phone revival) the 2024 models of the Razr and Razr+ feel like the products of a company that finally knows what a special thing it has on its hands. While I still pine for the bold chin-centric design of old, most everything else here looks like a winner (on paper, at least):
🔵 Refined hinge that's easy to open and smooth throughout the whole range of motion
🔵 Bigger cover screens on both models, with many more fun customization options (including an Always-On Display!)
🔵 Special camcorder mode that automatically activates when the phone is half-folded and turned on its side
🔵 Faster charging (wired and wireless)
🔵 First MediaTek processor option on a Razr (probably contributing to the lower price point of $699 vs the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3-powered Razr+ at $999)
🩷... and of course, they brought back the Hot Pink color for the 20-year anniversary.
Of course, there are a few things I'm not sure about.
😬 Replacing the Razr+'s ultrawide camera with a measly 2x telephoto might make portrait stans happy, but not this guy
😬 Last year's Razrs are STILL awaiting Android 14, even as competitors like Oppo upgrade their own flips
😬 Last year's model also suffered from a problem with its screen protector cracking (which happened to my own review unit). The Razr'24 has a new film, which will hopefully hold up better.
😬 Motorola's camera output (particularly on video) has long left much to be desired. BIG TBD on this one.
So much more to say about both of these phones - honestly, the above doesn't even scratch the surface. Let me know what you'd most like to see in my review, coming in July!

Bagaimana menjelaskan ransomware ke orang awam?
Kok bisa hacker minta 8 juta dolar? Buat apa 8 juta dolar itu?
***
Jadi gini, bayangkan kita pergi ke luar rumah.
Ada maling masuk rumah kita.
Maling itu gak ngambil apa-apa, tapi bawa peti besi.
Maling ini masukin semua dokumen penting: ijazah, surat tanah, akte kelahiran, dll. kita ke peti besi.
Lalu digembok beberapa lapis sama dia.
Setelah itu dia pergi.
***
"Halo mas, rumah mas saya bobol, semua dokumen penting Mas saya masukin peti besi, masih ada di sana kan?"
"Hah? Oh iya ini ada peti besi. Gimana bukanya mas?"
"Kunci gemboknya saya jual mas, 8 juta dolar. Kalau mau dokumennya mas tinggal beli aja."
"Mahal amaaat."
"Ya terserah, kalau gak mau bayar ya udah. Kunci gemboknya udah saya bikin serumit mungkin, tukang kunci gak akan bisa buka."
"Wah, mas tapi itu dokumen penting saya, buat hidup. Saya gak ada backupnya."
"Salah sendiri gak ada backup."
***
Solusinya gimana?
1) Cari tukang kunci yang ahli, tapi biasanya gak akan berhasil, kecuali malingnya udah pernah pake gembok dan kuncinya ke orang lain.
2) Bayar ransomware-nya, 8 juta dolar, lalu berharap malingnya beneran ngasih kunci.
3) Bayar ransomware-nya, 8 juta dolar, tapi malingnya gak bertanggung jawab. Jadi dokumennya udah hilang, masih nambah hilang 8 juta dolar. Namanya juga maling.
4) Restore dari backup dokumen. Gak punya backup? "Salah sendiri gak ada backup."
