Inspired by @AvashiaNeema, @darjeun, and #NationalLibraryWeek, here's the WV library that supplied me with orange-covered biographies and Joan Aiken novels, where the writer I would become started to unfurl, to dream of the next word or chapter or book. @MarionCoLibs
This little library made me a reader, and then a writer. Within its walls, I only heard “Yes.” Yes, check out as many books as you can. Yes, read to understand the world and yourself. Celebrating libraries as cornerstones of both democracy and humanity, this week and always. ❤️
One more photo from yesterday to shout-out these three powerhouses. L-R: Frank X Walker, Kentucky’s first Black poet laureate; @silasdhouse, Kentucky’s first openly gay poet laureate; @CrystalWilki, Kentucky’s first Black woman poet laureate.
My remarks from today's induction as the new Poet Laureate of Kentucky. I hope you might have nine minutes to listen in. I am so thankful to all of you for the well-wishes. I appreciate them more than I can say. Big love to all. https://t.co/sTfIGnBKjI
Nearly thirty years ago, a young writer submitted a short story to our then-editor Sidney Saylor Farr. It was his first publication, and now we're congratulating him on being named Kentucky's new poet laureate. Well done, @silasdhouse. We're so proud of you.
I spoke with @caseyparks for @oxfordamerican about how her memoir 'Diary of a Misfit' captures the South's contradictions surrounding gender and #LGBTQ identity, and how she was changed by writing it.

Hey, WV friends-if you know a young person who could really use some love right now in the face of all the hate coming down from the WV legislature, DM me. I’m giving away 10 copies of Another Appalachia to young LGBTQ+ West Virginians.
Something I’ve learned during the book pub process: Expatalachians are everywhere. They work at Brown and Barrelhouse and CNN and Salon. In Boston libraries and Chicago bookstores. And they lift up our stories every chance they get. ❤️
“In today’s haunting poem, we see how even the food itself becomes almost alive with all that constant watching.”

Delighted to be nominated for a Pushcart for my story, “Little Piles of Change.” Grateful to be in the company of so many talented writers. Thank you to @JasonKyleHoward and the wonderful folks at @AppReviewMag for believing in the work 💙
