Foundation Studies students at our Trowbridge campus have got into the Christmas spirit.
They have been holding a Christmas Sale of Apple Project produce as well as sausage rolls, mince pies, cakes and cookies, with proceeds going to the Christmas Jumper Appeal.

Exploring ways of preserving food is a great way to reconnect with the food we eat, extend the availability of local produce and reduce food waste.

Calling all Foundation Studies applicants!
Meet lecturer Farida as she talks about what you’ll be doing during your first few weeks and the types of skill you’ll be learning on this fantastic course.

Step 6 is to actually press the juice. The apple pulp from the scratter gets either tipped into our big beast or carefully put into our rack and cloth press. Either way we have to have buckets at the ready to collect the juice that pours out. #wiltscoll#studenteats#appleproject
Step 5 is the noisy stage! We add all our cut apples to the scratter so they can be turned into pulp. This is a three people job - one to tip apples into the scratter, one to ensure the apple pulp goes into the trug and one to stop apples from hitting anyone! #wiltscoll
We now need to cut the apples, most apples just get cut in half however sometimes they are just so big that we have to cut them into four. Each press we use roughly 50kg of apples so this is the longest part of the process. #wiltscoll#studenteats#appleproject#trowbridge
Next, when we are making our apple juice, we have to make sure all our apples are sterilised. We add the sterilising solution to our bottles and leave them for 30 minutes so this is a very time sensitive task. #wiltscoll#studenteats#appleproject#trowbridge#sustainable#SEN
