World Sindhi Congress Organizes Protest at UNHRC, Geneva, to Highlight Human Rights Atrocities in Sindh by Pakistan
On 26 September 2023 during the 54th Session of the UNHRC, the World Sindhi Congress (WSC) organized a significant protest in front of the #UNHRC in #Geneva. The event saw participation from #Sindhi representatives and exile leaders of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Additionally, human rights defenders from various European countries joined the cause.
The core objective of the protest was to apprise the UN and the international community about the continuing human rights violations inflicted upon the Sindhi people by the #Pakistani state. The spotlight was firmly placed on the atrocities, which included enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, persecution of religious minorities, and the plundering of local resources.
The speakers consistently emphasized that the Sindhi, Baloch, Kashmiri, and Pashtun Peoples are systematically oppressed by Pakistan, citing numerous instances of heinous crimes.
WSC representatives asserted that the situation is deteriorating daily. They underscored various concerns, such as the enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of Sindhi political activists, the ethnic cleansing of Sindhi Hindus, and the exploitative extraction from the billions-of-years-old Karoonjhar mountain. Issues like the manipulated census aiming to alter Sindh's demography, colonial-style land grabs by the Pakistan army and their associates, and the suppression of the Sindhi voice regarding their historical, political, and human rights were also highlighted. The assembly was reminded of recent victims like 10-year-old Fatima Phurioro, Ajmal Sawand, 7-year-old Priya Kumari, Nazim Jokhio, and Professor Notan Lal, who await justice.
In a unified voice, the speakers pointed out that these human rights transgressions occur with utter impunity, leaving victims with no path to justice. Considering these egregious violations, an earnest plea was made to the UN and the international community to intervene and take resolute action to protect the Sindhi people and prevent further anguish.

I am currently visiting the motherland with my family. Yesterday while in Hyderabad I wanted to show my son the Pucca Qila and some other classic architecture for which Hyderabad was once called “The Paris of the East”. But instead of the pride and joy that I was hoping to generate, we came back totally broken hearted, after witnessing with our own eyes the total destruction of heritage sites of old town Hyderabad. Specially the Pucca Qila, which has been reduced to nothing but rubble. I had been there only a couple of years back, It is obvious that the rapidity of destruction of Pucca Qila has increased exponentially. It is sad to see that at the current rate of destruction even the last tile of this classic colossal symbol of Sindh’s past glory will be lost within the next few years. What once symbolized our greatness has now become a mammoth symbol of criminal negligence of the Culture Department, Government of Sindh, and those that we have been electing to Power for Decades. If this is going to be their legacy, then history is going to judge them very harshly !
