1/10 BEHAVIORISM is rife in our school & health systems. Look beyond the glossy websites, the cheerful photos, the chatty newsletters, the push & pull of rewards & sanctions nestles 'harmlessly?' 'It's what we've always done.' Yet, when we know better, surely we should do better?
Any SLTs got any advice around working with a stage 2 #GLP lad in a mainstream secondary school setting? He gets time out in an SEN base and they’re good at carrying out programmes.
“K” and “c” are the same sound??? They’re all voiceless ???? Stop telling parents there’s something structurally wrong when it contradicts the salt??????
Read today in a child paediatricians report something along the lines of “child has difficulties producing sounds that require larynx involvement, such as “c” “k” and “s”” ??????????????? There was more but this was the worst of it
Second year in the same school is fun getting to see kids achieving targets! Assessed a child today in a 30/40 min session. Last year took me 3 attempts to complete assessment over 2 week w/him bc of attention skills (or my NQP incompetence at the time! Both perhaps??) #mySLTday
: Please can anyone recommend a #BSL British Sign Language professional in the #Sheffield area who I can hire/pay to work with me on an ad hoc basis?
Thanks in advance.
* I've already contacted British Sign, but am also looking for personal recommendations.
If you were a brand new #doctor on a #stroke ward, what would you want to know about communication impairments? Or #SLT#SLT2B what would you want to tell the #medicalteam if you had the chance? I’m designing some bitesized training and would love the views of others! @RCSLT
We’ve been doing multiple opposition therapy targeting / f st b/ and they’re making good progress on st- and b- and can do -f in final but whenever we do initial he inserts his d! So “four” becomes “f-door”
Do I know an #SLT who works with #speechsounddisorders who can give me some tips on a child who has a phoneme collapse to /d/ and is now inserting a /d/ between /f/ and vowel??
The NHS and all of us working in the NHS must work against systemic racism that is still so deeply engrained. Additionally, healthcare professionals must take women’s (particularly WoC) health more seriously
So on Monday evening, my wife was brought to @uclh hospital by an ambulance after an NHS 111 referral and was left for 2 hours with 10/10 abdominal pain that was so bad she was gasping for her breath and rolling around.
Delivered 4 #slt trainings to primary school TAs over the last week & nearly all had never heard of #dld before & were shocked by the stats. They’ve not received training or been given any info about this common but sadly hidden lang disorder. What can we do to change this? 🤷🏽♀️
