Eritrean diasporas are once again rallying to respond to the urgent needs of their homeland. Over the years, Eritreans living abroad have mobilised resources, raising substantial funds to support those affected by conflict while sending essential supplies to help communities in need. They have actively challenged disinformation campaigns that seek to undermine the country’s narrative and have worked tirelessly to build international awareness about Eritrean issues. They have not only defended their nation’s sovereignty but also taken significant steps to ensure its voice is heard on the global stage. #EmbassyMedia
Eritrea Accuses Abiy Government of Escalating Hostility and Threatening Regional Peace
NEW YORK ― Ambassador Sophia Tesfamariam, following discussions with #China’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Fu Cong, accused Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government of waging a sustained three-year campaign against #Eritrea while advancing territorial claims over the strategic port of Assab through nationalist rhetoric and alleged disinformation.
She stressed that Eritrea had exercised restraint despite what she described as repeated threats of force and explicit declarations of war by Ethiopian leaders, refusing to be drawn into a dangerous escalation.
Amb. Sophia Tesfamariam also challenged the international community over its continued diplomatic, financial, and political support for Addis Ababa, warning that shielding the Ethiopian government from meaningful accountability risks emboldening further aggression.
She cited #Ethiopia’s severing of diplomatic relations with Eritrea and the expulsion of Eritrean diplomats, including representatives accredited to the @_AfricanUnion and the UN Economic Commission for Africa, as evidence of the deepening crisis.
She warned that allowing political objectives to be pursued through threats or force undermines the UN Charter, rewards brinkmanship, and sends a dangerous message that powerful or strategically favoured states can disregard international law without consequences.
🚨ETHIOPIA: A NATION IN CRISIS
A nation battling multiple civil wars, communal violence, economic hardship, run away inflation, unemployment, and widespread poverty cannot afford reckless leadership or another regional confrontation.
Abiy Ahmed’s government must be held accountable for its decisions, its approach to conflict, and its responsibility to protect all Ethiopians, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.
The future of an entire generation is at stake. The time to save Ethiopia from Abiy Ahmed and secure its future is NOW! ⏳
UN Day 2026 commemorated at Asmara Palace Hotel yesterday in the presence of Government Ministers and senior officials, and members of the Diplomatic Corps and the UN family in Eritrea.
Events included: keynote address by FM Osman Saleh; speech by UN Resident Coordinator Nahla Valji; Video address by UN SG Antonio Guterres, as well as exhibition/contests by young IT innovators as well as a "Trashion Show" on creative fashion dresses woven exclusively from recycled materials.
Speeches centered on global challenges/trends in these tumultuous times of proliferating conflicts; the imperatives of respect for international law and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of UN Member States; and trajectory and future prospect of Eritrea-UN development cooperation.
Potemkin Party Officials (speech at 12th Tana Forum by Director of NSA) are invoking "increasing Red Sea militarization... and its consequences on maritime security" to argue for a "seat on the table for its stabilization".
The unhealthy obsession/irony is too palpable to merit elaboration.
This regime has been embroiled in, and has become the principal incubator, of the multiple and perennial internal conflicts that have gripped Ethiopia (Tigray, Amhara, Somali Regions etc.) for most of its relatively short incumbency.
It continues to host a military base in the Beni-Shangul Gumuz Region in western Ethiopia for UAE sponsored military training camp; main conduit for mercenaries; and for launching Drone attacks against the Sudan.
For more than three years now, it has declared an unprovoked war of aggression against Eritrea under the mantra of "sovereign access to the sea" and projection of "naval power" in the sovereign territorial waters of its neighbour.
Its destabilizing act against Somalia is another dimension of its delusional pursuit of "regional grandeur" and insatiable appetite for the status of a "surrogate mini-hegemon" under the beck and call of other regional hegemons.
This charade has to stop before it entails further regional chaos and turmoil!
Time to tell the aspirant "mini-hegemon" to shed these hollow pipedreams and grapple with its intractable domestic agendas. Time to openly pronounce - as the saying goes - that "the Emperor has no clothes".
"Eritrea recognizes the vital importance of constructive, principled international engagement. Through frameworks like the UN SDCF our nation continues to collaborate with UN agencies and international partners in areas that align with our national development goals".
United Nations Day: Address by Foreign Minister Osman Saleh
*"...As we reflect on the founding ideals of the United Nations, peace, human dignity, sovereign equality among nations, and international cooperation, we do so against a backdrop of a complex and shifting global landscape".
*"...Eritrea recognizes the vital importance of constructive, principled international engagement. Through frameworks like the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, our nation continues to collaborate with United Nations agencies and international partners in areas that align with our national development goals".
*"...We have made progress in public health, preventive medicine, immunization, sanitation, and community-based services despite considerable resource constraints. The United Nations’ 2025 results report for Eritrea recorded routine immunization coverage above 95 percent, skilled birth attendance rising to 85 percent, and approximately 250,000 people benefiting from more reliable solar-powered water systems".
*"...Against this backdrop, the promise of peace and collective security enshrined in the UN Charter is severely tested today. We meet at a critical juncture where the peace and stability of our region are being actively imperiled by ongoing escalations and unprovoked acts of aggression against our sovereignty and territorial integrity".
*"...As Eritrea has made clear to the United Nations Security Council, our nation faces hostile provocations and aggressive posturing that flagrantly violate the UN Charter, international law, and the fundamental principles of good neighborliness. True multilateralism and the credibility of the international system are measured precisely by how it responds when the sovereign borders of a member state are threatened by external aggression. A 'rules-based' global order cannot remain in complicit silent, nor can it indulge double standards, when regional stability is systematically undermined by bellicose actions of a habitual irredentist neighbor".

Held discussions with H.E. Mr. Fu Cong, Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of #China to the @UN. In addition to UN80 processes, elections, we discussed recent developments in the #Horn of #Africa and the importance of sober, objective analysis grounded in facts and an appreciation of the region’s complex historical and political realities.
On #Eritrea–#Ethiopia relations, explained that the Government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has pursued a three-year-long campaign targeting the State of #Eritrea, its Government and institutions. This has been accompanied by an increasingly aggressive campaign to claim and annex the #Eritrean port of #Assab, exploiting fabricated historical connections and disseminating misinformation and disinformation to inflame nationalist sentiment and galvanize public opinion in #Ethiopia.
Underscored that, despite persistent threats of force and explicit declarations of war by #Ethiopian leaders, #Eritrea has exercised maximum restraint and refused to be drawn into an escalation fuelled by provocative rhetoric and threats.
Further stressed the responsibility of an international community that has extended diplomatic, financial and political support to the #Ethiopian Government, often shielding it from meaningful scrutiny and accountability.
I also highlighted #Ethiopia’s decision to sever diplomatic relations with #Eritrea and expel #Eritrea|n diplomats, including those accredited to the @_AfricanUnion and the @UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
Such support must not embolden the dangerous illusion that political objectives can be pursued through force, whether against neighbouring states or #Ethiopia|s own people. Such an approach is neither sustainable nor conducive to peace. It rewards brinkmanship, emboldens further provocations and weakens the deterrent effect of the @UN Charter's prohibition on the threat or use of force.
It also sends a deeply troubling message to other states: that compliance with international law is expected of some, while others may enjoy exceptional treatment because of their strategic value or political relationships...
Will the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the African Union (AU), and other relevant actors act decisively to deter aggression, or will they once again allow the burden of defending the UN Charter’s fundamental principles to fall solely on Eritrea?

Held discussions with H.E. Mr. Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, PR of Bahrain to the @UN, and briefed him on #Eritrea’s assessment of the situation in the #Horn of #Africa. Explained the #Ethiopia|n leadership’s three-year-long campaign over access to the Red Sea, including increasingly explicit statements by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and senior military commanders challenging #Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and threatening the use of force.
Underscored that, in the face of persistent threats of force and explicit declarations of war by #Ethiopia|n leaders, #Eritrea has exercised maximum restraint and avoided being drawn into an escalation fuelled by provocative rhetoric and threats.
Emphasized the importance of ensuring that all member states are fully apprised of the underlying context, the implications of #Ethiopia’s posture for regional peace and security, and the imperative of unequivocal respect for #Eritrea’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence and unity.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange views on the situation in the Middle East, including its broader implications for regional peace and security and the importance of sustained diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation. Agreed to remain engaged...
Will the UNSC and the AU Rein in Ethiopian’s Expansionism and Aggression?
by Adulis Tewolde
*...Today, the Horn of Africa confronts another dangerous juncture. The current Ethiopian ruling party has explicitly framed 'sovereign access to the sea' as a 'strategic imperative', that must be 'ascertained through negotiations if possible and by force if necessary'. Ethiopia’s intensive and provocative pronouncements conducted for over three years now as well as associated acts are indeed tantamount to a declaration of war. And finally, on 9 October this month, Ethiopia formally notified the UN Security Council that it has declared war against Eritrea under the preposterous allegations of 'Eritrea’s invasion''.
*"...Both the UN and the AU are intergovernmental organizations designed to reflect the collective position of their member states. In this context, it is imperative that these institutions uphold, without any equivocation, the fundamental pillars of the UN Charter and the AU’s Constitutive Act on the full respect of sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence of all Member States. Indeed, respect for these principles is sine qua non for peaceful relations between States".
*"...Eritrea has already paid a heavy price for the international community’s past failures. Its long struggle for independence and its insistence on the implementation of the EEBC decisions underscore the importance of defending sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful settlement of disputes".
*"The question now is whether the institutions established to safeguard international peace and security will fulfill their responsibilities. Will the Security Council, the African Union, and the wider international community rein in Ethiopia’s Prosperity Party expansionist ambitions and deter aggression? Or will the defense of the UN Charter’s most fundamental principles once again be left to Eritrea alone, with all the catastrophic costs that such a failure entails".

#Eritrea: Delegation Statement at Sixth Consultative Meeting on Enhancing Coordination of Peace Initiatives and Efforts in Sudan
*"...The resolution of the conflict in Sudan rests primarily and ultimately with the Sudanese people. International and regional partners must limit themselves to facilitating a Sudanese-owned and Sudanese-led process, with the people and Government of Sudan at the center".
&"...Temporary ceasefires and partial measures may provide only limited respite and risk prolonging the crisis. The ultimate goal must be to end the suffering of the Sudanese people, restore peace and stability, and enable Sudan to begin recovery and reconstruction in a secure environment".
*"...It is therefore essential that our discussions translate into meaningful and collective action to address all factors contributing to the continuation of the conflict, including external support and interference. Without a concerted effort in this regard, our ability to advance a credible and sustainable path towards peace will remain severely constrained if not impossible".

Public speeches may be hazardous at times. Indeed, one has to choose one's words carefully.
As it happens, the omission of this clause: "In the famous words of President Kennedy..." by the speaker seems to be main reason behind the uproar that has gone viral in social media in past two days!

U.S. @SecRubio referred to the #Ethiopia's People's Forces Alliance for Survival as “separatists” & "terrorists"— the very forces who are fighting to prevent Ethiopia's disintegration. It's @AbiyAhmedAli & his army who are the terrorist regime waging #genocidal war on the people.
When the Organization of African Unity (OAU)—now the AU—was founded in 1963, member states made one sacred pact: colonial borders must remain sacrosanct. They knew that if African nations began redrawing borders based on ethnicity or historical claims, the entire continent would descend into endless, bloody wars.
Abiy is working against Africa by destroying those sacrosanct colonial boundaries. By threatening Eritrea and attempting to carve up Somalia through the Somaliland MoU, he is detonating the AU's foundational rule. If colonial borders collapse, Africa disintegrates. The AU, headquartered in Addis Ababa, is in the wrong place at the wrong time.
All Africans and the African Union (AU) must take note and urge Ethiopia to cease fomenting regional instability and fulfilling the eschatological outcome sought by his handlers.

Abiy’s Reality vs. His Fantasy (aka Potemkin Party), watch these two video clips taken in the same country on the same day in #Ethiopia.
Yesterday, innocent schoolchildren were attacked by a drone while attending classes, plunging the whole community into chaos and mayhem. Yet, on the very same day, in the very same country, the Prime Minister posted a heavily edited promotional video, complete with sound effects and slow-motion shots, wearing VR gear, showcasing an office for what he calls a Nuclear Energy Centre.
What a cruel joke on the #Ethiopian people!
While the country is engulfed in flames, and his government is busy beating the drums of yet another war against #Eritrea, Abiy is busy producing cinematic propaganda, posing in virtual-reality gear and selling fantasies.
The contrast could not be more grotesque: innocent children face the horrors of war, while their Prime Minister plays in a virtual Reality world.
#Ethiopia is burning in the real world. Abiy is busy marketing fantasy! @_AfricanUnion@ReutersAfrica@BBCAfrica@trtafrika@AlArabiya_Eng@AJEnglish
Had constructive engagements with H.E. Mike Waltz, Permanent Representative of the United States to the United Nations, and Ambassador Jeffrey Bartos, U.S. Representative to the UN for Management and Reform.
Discussed recent developments in the #Horn of #Africa and presented #Eritrea’s perspective on the evolving regional situation. Reiterated that there is no "crisis" between #Eritrea and #Ethiopia, and underscored the need for the international community to pay closer attention to the worrisome developments within #Ethiopia. The most important issue is for #Ethiopia to respect #Eritrea's sovereign territories and stop diverting attention from its domestic issues.
Outlined #Ethiopia|s three-year-long campaign concerning the Red Sea and its continued threats against #Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including threats to annex sovereign #Eritrean territories. Urged those with leverage to use it responsibly and proactively, to prevent unnecessary wars in the region. To refrain from making statments that embolden #Ethiopia's leadership.
Also briefed them on #Ethiopia’s expulsion of #Eritrea’s representatives accredited to the @_AfricanUnion Union and the @UN Economic Commission for #Africa, as well as the breakdown of diplomatic relations initiated by #Ethiopia and reciprocated by #Eritrea.
#Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected. Preventing renewed conflict requires addressing the underlying threats, upholding international law, and acting before issues escalate...
