This is completely unacceptable, and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board must address it urgently. (JAMB) @JAMBHQ@egi_nupe@Cool_Ustaz@IdrisAOni1
A young female candidate, fully dressed in her hijab, comes to write an exam, and instead of being allowed to focus on her future, she’s confronted and denied that right? For what exactly? Since when did a hijab become a threat or an excuse for suspicion?
This is not just wrong, it is deeply disrespectful and discriminatory. A female in hijab is simply exercising her right to her faith, nothing more. She should not be singled out, embarrassed, or made to feel like she doesn’t belong in a national exam space.
If there are security protocols, they must be applied with sense, dignity, and fairness, not in a way that targets or oppresses. There are respectful ways to verify identity without violating someone’s religious expression.
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board needs to come out immediately, apologize, and make it clear that no candidate will ever be treated like this again. Because what happened here sends a dangerous message, that some Nigerians have to fight harder just to be treated equally.
This cannot be swept under the carpet. Today it’s a girl in hijab, tomorrow it could be anyone else. There must be religious tolerance, and there must be accountability. Enough is enough.
A Muslim lady was forced to remove her hijab before she can sit for an exam in Nigeria.
This is the same Nigeria where the enemies of Islam claim that Christians are being persecuted for their faith.
We demand justice and respect for Muslim women.
Dear JAMB, @JAMBHQ
Despite earlier reports informing you about the harassment faced by Muslim candidates over the wearing of the hijab during JAMB examinations, no effective action has been taken, and the situation appears to be ongoing. It should be clearly understood, as we have previously stated, that the hijab is not a form of fashion or cultural display, but a religious obligation in Islam.
We therefore call on you, in the strongest terms, to urgently put an end to any form of discrimination or harassment against Muslim candidates in matters that are central to their faith. Are you expecting them to appear in examination halls without proper covering or to expose parts of their bodies? In our religion, this is not permissible, and we will not comply with such requirements.
We strongly urge that all forms of harassment or discrimination against Muslim women for wearing the hijab be stopped immediately.
Trust me, if Nigerian Christians have a bigger population than us in this country, they won't allow us pray even the least 5 daily prayers. This can never happen in the North. They didn't born the person's father that can try it.
