অনেকেই আজকে এপস্টেইন ফাইল নিয়ে আলোচনা-সমালোচনা দেখছেন। অনেকেই বিষয়টা জানেন, আবার অনেকে অল্প কিছু জানেন। তাদেরকে একটু কনটেক্সট ধরিয়ে দিই।

জেফরি এপস্টেইন মামলাটি বর্তমান সময়ের অন্যতম বড় একটি স্ক্যান্ডাল। সম্প্রতি আদালত থেকে যে ফাইলগুলো জনসমক্ষে এসেছে, তা নিয়ে ইন্টারনেটে ব্যাপক তোলপাড় চলছে।

জেফরি এপস্টেইন ছিলেন আমেরিকার একজন অত্যন্ত প্রভাবশালী এবং ধনী বিনিয়োগকারী। তবে তাঁর মূল পরিচয় ছিল তাঁর উচ্চপর্যায়ের যোগাযোগ। মার্কিন প্রেসিডেন্ট থেকে শুরু করে ব্রিটিশ রাজপরিবার, বিল গেটস বা বিখ্যাত বিজ্ঞানীদের সাথে তাঁর ঘনিষ্ঠতা ছিল। ২০১৯ সালে তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে অপ্রাপ্তবয়স্ক মেয়েদের পাচার এবং যৌন শোষণের অভিযোগ ওঠে। বিচারে দোষী সাব্যস্ত হওয়ার আগেই জেলখানায় তাঁর রহস্যজনক মৃত্যু (আত্মহত্যা বলা হয়) ঘটে।

এপস্টেইন মামলার ভুক্তভোগী ভার্জিনিয়া জুফ্রে এবং এপস্টেইনের সহযোগী গিলেইন ম্যাক্সওয়েলের মধ্যে একটি দেওয়ানি মামলা চলছিল। সেই মামলার অংশ হিসেবে শত শত নথিপত্র সিলগালা করা ছিল। সম্প্রতি আদালতের নির্দেশে সেই সিলগালা করা নামগুলো এবং জবানবন্দি জনসমক্ষে আনা হয়েছে। এগুলোই মূলত 'এপস্টেইন ফাইল' নামে পরিচিত।

এই ফাইলগুলো থেকে বেরিয়ে আসছে যে, কীভাবে ক্ষমতা এবং অর্থের আড়ালে বছরের পর বছর ধরে একটি ভয়ংকর মানবপাচার চক্র চলছিল। বিল ক্লিনটন, ডোনাল্ড ট্রাম্প, প্রিন্স অ্যান্ড্রু এবং স্টিফেন হকিংয়ের মতো মানুষের নাম এই নথিতে কোনো না কোনোভাবে উল্লেখ আছে।

আসলে এপস্টেইন দ্বীপ বা তার অন্যান্য প্রোপার্টিতে কী হতো, সেই অন্ধকার দিকটা অত্যন্ত বীভৎস। নথিপত্র এবং ভুক্তভোগীদের জবানবন্দি অনুযায়ী সেখানে যা চলত, তাকে সংক্ষেপে 'সেক্স ট্র্যাফিকিং নেটওয়ার্ক' বা যৌন দাসত্ব বলা হয়।

আমেরিকার ভার্জিন আইল্যান্ডসের এই ব্যক্তিগত দ্বীপটি (লিটল সেন্ট জেমস আইল্যান্ড) ছিল এপস্টেইনের মূল আস্তানা। ভুক্তভোগীদের মতে, এখানে অপ্রাপ্তবয়স্ক মেয়েদের বিমানে করে উড়িয়ে আনা হতো। সেখানে প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তিদের খুশি করার জন্য এই মেয়েদের ওপর যৌন নিপীড়ন চালানো হতো।

অনেক বিশ্লেষকের মতে, এপস্টেইন কেবল আনন্দ দেওয়ার জন্য এসব করতেন না। তিনি প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তিদের (রাজনীতিবিদ, ব্যবসায়ী, বিজ্ঞানী) এমন সব অনৈতিক কাজে লিপ্ত করতেন, যা গোপনে ভিডিও বা ছবি তুলে রাখা হতো। পরবর্তীতে এই ফুটেজগুলো ব্ল্যাকমেইলের হাতিয়ার হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে তিনি নিজের ক্ষমতা বা অর্থবিত্ত বাড়িয়ে নিতেন।

এপস্টেইন এবং তার সহযোগী গিলেইন ম্যাক্সওয়েল মেয়েদের রিক্রুট করার সময় বলতেন যে, তাদের শুধু 'ম্যাসাজ' দিতে হবে। কিন্তু ধীরে ধীরে তাদের বাধ্য করা হতো প্রভাবশালী অতিথিদের সাথে শারীরিক সম্পর্ক করতে। অনেক ক্ষেত্রে এক মেয়েকে বলা হতো অন্য নতুন মেয়ে খুঁজে আনতে (যাকে গ্রুমিং বলা হয়)।

এপস্টেইনের একটি ব্যক্তিগত বোয়িং ৭২৭ বিমান ছিল, যার ডাকনাম দেওয়া হয়েছিল 'ললিটা এক্সপ্রেস'। এই বিমানে করে বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন প্রান্ত থেকে মেয়েদের পাচার করা হতো এবং মাঝ আকাশেও তাদের ওপর নির্যাতন চলত বলে নথিতে উল্লেখ আছে।

এপস্টেইনের বাড়িতে ডেন্টাল চেয়ারের মতো অদ্ভুত সব আসবাবপত্র ছিল এবং দেয়ালে অনেক প্রভাবশালী মানুষের বিতর্কিত সব ছবি টাঙানো থাকত। দ্বীপের ভেতরে একটি নীল-সাদা মন্দির সদৃশ অদ্ভুত দালান ছিল, যার ভেতরে কী হতো তা আজও রহস্য। অনেকে মনে করেন সেখানে গোপন সুড়ঙ্গ বা ভিডিও রেকর্ডিং রুম ছিল।

মূল কথা হলো, এটি কেবল একটি ব্যক্তিগত অপরাধ ছিল না, বরং এটি ছিল একটি সিস্টেমেটিক নেটওয়ার্ক। যেখানে প্রভাবশালীরা তাদের বিকৃত লালসা মেটাত আর এপস্টেইন সেই দুর্বলতাকে পুঁজি করে দুনিয়া নিয়ন্ত্রণ করার চেষ্টা করত।

How Punjabi Muslims from Multan, Lahore, and Rawalpindi districts refused to fight Ottomans.

In 1915, as the British Indian Army prepared to send troops from Basra toward Palestine to fight Ottoman forces, 429 cavalrymen of the 15th Lancers (Cureton’s Multanis) refused the order to advance.

The regiment, composed largely of Punjabi Muslims from Multan, Lahore, and Rawalpindi districts, declared that they could not take up arms against the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire—whom they regarded as the Caliph and the spiritual head of Islam.

They insisted they were loyal soldiers of the King-Emperor but pleaded not to be sent into a campaign that would force them to shed the blood of fellow Muslims. British officers recorded the refusal with alarm, understanding it as an act driven not by rebellion but by conscience.

Rather than court-martial the entire unit, the British command dispersed portions of the regiment to less sensitive postings. Many of the troopers were reassigned to duties in Persia and on internal security lines far from Ottoman battlefronts.
