Trapped in Evangelicalism: My top 10 reasons it's almost impossible to leave
1/10: Childhood Scaffolding –A child's reality is built around the faith. Leaving would require years and years of connections in the mind to be dismantled, causing great instability.

@MikeWingerii Because you have to stand with the Bible, you can't stand up fully against someone who could destroy democracy. And you are taking people with you.
I used to see things like you do. But the Bible is clouding your judgment
@wcdispatch@KaeleyT Why is it then that I in a group of women were the only ones who exposed an abuse situation at our church –the men were fooled. Eventually the elders (all male) had to get up and apologize and the pastor too.
@EverydayAilment @Ccdude85 It used to be a swing state and I don't know what happened… it's sad being surrounded by it. My husband and I are voting blue but we know probably it won't matter
@MikeWingerii A lot of people think there's some deep dark demonic influence behind the Dems – I see this in Christian circles a lot.
But they're just people. They do some bad things, some good things.
Same with Repubs –kids in Ohio got bomb threats at their school because what Trump said
@MikeWingerii I think we have to ask ourselves, why don't we like the teachings? And sometimes the answer is that they go against conscience and against what's right. You would want Muslims to evaluate their book right? I would ask Christians to use the same conscience to evaluate theirs
Most of Christianity at its core is a denial and replacement of the real, because reality can be too difficult to face.
Kudos to all of us for diving into, experiencing, loving, hating, breathing all the true world. For the first time maybe, we are genuinely alive.
@TychiSos I'm sure there are many Christians who don't feel afraid, but many still believe that they will be tortured they leave Jesus. I can't imagine a healthy human relationship where that would be the case
@MikeWingerii I taught English as a second language and have my masters in it. Language in the culture is always changing and you used a more modern colloquial expression.
I'm kind of shocked that people are so rules based but that's also kind of common in Christianity maybe?
And for those who don't think what's happening in Gaza is genocide am I missing something?
I've always been supportive of Israel but I just can't support killing children and civilians like this.
Was there no other way that they could deal with Hamas?
And now we are seeing it happen in real time. Christians are supporting genocide.
Being this disabled I don't feel safe speaking publicly to my family and friends, plus I don't feel like I could help. But I also feel terrible for not saying something.
Bill Craig is defending the claim that God may command Christians in our day to commit actions that meet the legal definitions of ethnic cleansing and genocide (e.g. Deut. 7:2, 5; 20:16-17; Josh. 6:21; see my book "Jesus Loves Canaanites" for full analysis). Appalling.
@MikeWingerii Sometimes people do have reasons that are not super logical or backed by evidence. That being said, many of us do have some pretty solid arguments against Christianity. The strongest one I think is the unjust actions reported to be done and commanded by Yahweh in the Bible
There's a terrible crisis for pain patients going on in in the US.
Most people don't know about it but doctors are not prescribing opioids to people in severe pain. Even for years and years.
Everyone in the country is at risk.
We receive thousands of emails/messages/voicemails similarly to this one
Please consider supporting our efforts as we continue to raise money to retain a DC lobbyist

Many Christians look at suffering as a sort of test of loyalty to God (who would allow this or even ordain this to happen to you).
Now I see it as abusive—we would never allow another human to do these things to us, and rightly so.
