@SDPInstitute Thank you all so much for participating and sharing about your lived experiences! I'm leaving our conversation feeling inspired, motivated, and SO proud to be #firstgen
Q7: What advice or resources would you offer to first-generation college students looking to continue their education and/or join the workplace? #SDPIChat
A7: Find other #firstgen students/graduates. We are each other's greatest resource. We can remind each other how much we have to contribute to the greater good. #SDPIChat
A7: You’re not alone on the struggle bus as I call it lol, Please reach out to folx for help. Aqui estamos & we will rise en comunidad! The goal should always be to build a bigger table not a higher wall. I’m always here if you have any questions! #SDPIChat#Firstgen#Jotería
A5: Employers can disrupt this privileged white notion of “professionalism” and learn to center their employees with asset-based praxis. #SDPIChat#Firstgen
A4: Employers and grad programs can start by de-centering whiteness as a norm in work and academic environments. Asset-based approaches should center people where they are, not institutions or workspaces. #SDPIChat#Firstgen
Q4: How can employers and graduate programs shift from a deficit-based approach when looking to recruit and retain first-generation college students? #SDPIChat
@joshanzaldua@SDPInstitute That group of supportive individuals helped me navigate a lot of situations as a #firstgen college student. Universities and employers should try to provide opportunities that help #firstgen students to develop these supportive networks.
