@SaxeAbigail I think it's crazy how they still fall for the tactics they created. It makes you think about what kind of chance we have in avoiding their tactics. Is it even possible at all to not fall into the traps these companies set?

@briannabocage This documentary is really shocking. I didn't know the extent to which the data was being taken. Companies are monitoring everything, even how long you stay on a post. No matter how private you make your account, the companies can still watch.

It's scary to think about how we're being manipulated by the people running these tech companies. It creates the question "How do we avoid falling for these tactics being used?" or "Can we even avoid these tactics at all?"

People should be concerned about the use of phones by young people. They are harming developing people. Suicide rates are skyrocketing and they're becoming more depressed/anxious. This can all be linked back to social media.

It's interesting to know that the ellipsis is used to increase engagement on an app. I realized that I will sit there and wait to see what the person replied to my message. In a company, a certain department's whole goal is to increase the time spent on the app.

The documentary mentions how companies have more information than "we can imagine" about their users. This makes you think more about what you're looking at/searching up online. It changes the way you display your digital identity.

"For the last ten years, the biggest companies in Silicon Valley have been in the business of selling their users." We learned about this in Module 12 regarding privacy. The module mentioned how companies can sell certain user data for marketing purposes.

In the article "Your Apps Know Where You Were Last Night, and They’re Not Keeping It Secret", they explain that companies are tracking locations to sell to others for marketing purposes. I believe people shouldn't be swayed to buy something in this manner.

Video games allow people to express their identities. Especially first-person games where the player is playing as a character. The question is brought up if the character is really just the player since the player controls all their actions.

After reading the "The Identity Issue: What Does It Mean to Be a Gamer?" article, I find it interesting how so many kids grow up being gamers. Video games have taken over "traditional" games that would be played by earlier generations.

After watching the "There are two kinds of identity politics. One is good. The other, very bad." video, I find it shocking how people are able to be reported on the things they say. Unless the statement is harming someone, then people should be able to speak freely.

After reading the "How the Digital Age is Reshaping Politics" article, I found that the internet is helping citizens become more involved in democracy. People can depict their ideas on what they want for their community and gather support.

What I've always found shocking was the media censorship in China. A whole country is being withheld a free flow of information. The government is choosing what they have access to. I find this incredibly unethical in these modern times.

The Digital Divide has great consequences for people without equal access. The internet is a source of education and the people without the internet will remain uneducated, which creates a cycle.
