'Imagine being told you have a disease that will rob you of your memory, your independence and your ability to recognise the people you love – and then being sent home with a leaflet.
'That would be unthinkable for cancer.
'Yet for dementia, it happens all the time.
'A leaflet is not care or treatment.
'It doesn't help a frightened husband, wife or daughter when the person they love starts to disappear in front of them.
'The NHS is meant to be there for everyone who needs it but people with dementia are being cast aside and left to fend for themselves.
'People with dementia are not asking for special treatment. They are asking to be taken as seriously – and with the same urgency and compassion – that we rightly expect for cancer and heart disease.
'We need the same national mission, the same targets, the same urgency and the same refusal to accept late diagnosis and poor care as inevitable.
'If ministers can find the will to transform cancer care, they can find the will to transform dementia care.'

Diagnosis and treatment for dementia is falling far behind other major conditions — and it shouldn’t be.
For conditions like cancer and heart disease, there are national targets, clear pathways and expectations around diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up.
For dementia, that kind of joined‑up system simply isn’t in place — and people are paying the price.
People with dementia face a frustrating experience at every stage: symptoms are missed, diagnosis often takes years, and too many are left without the support and treatment they need.
On average, people wait 3.5 years from first symptoms to a diagnosis, missing vital opportunities for early help
Nearly 250,000 people in England are diagnosed with early memory problems, yet there’s no national system in place to monitor progression to dementia
After diagnosis, 20% of people receive no support at all, with families describing the experience as being “released into the wild”
Access to treatment is inconsistent, and where you live or who you are can still determine the care you receive
This Dementia Action Week, we're calling for urgent government action to treat dementia on a par with other conditions — including clear national targets for early diagnosis and guaranteed access to treatment and post‑diagnosis support, without delay.

A truly historic moment as @NazShahBfd becomes the first Muslim to open Parliament and recommend the loyal address on behalf of the King.
A brilliant speech and a proud moment for Naz Shah MP and for Muslim communities across Britain.
👏👏👏
The first 2 episodes of ITV’s Believe Me raised important questions about how rape reports are handled when investigations fail. This is where the Human Rights Act matters setting standards under the ECHR for how the state must respond to serious violence

Automatically re-releasing DA perps as little as 8 weeks after being sent back to prison sends the wrong message to victims and abusers.
The gov must prioritise victims' safety and ensure these dangerous abusers are risk assessed before being let out.
