Today, on World Oceans Day, CORD Ghana joins the global community in celebrating the beauty, importance, and resilience of our oceans while reaffirming our commitment to protecting marine and freshwater ecosystems for present and future generations.
Oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface, regulate our climate, provide food and livelihoods for billions of people, and serve as one of our greatest natural defenses against climate change. Yet, pollution, plastic waste, unsustainable resource use, and environmental degradation continue to threaten these invaluable ecosystems.
At CORD Ghana, we recognize that protecting our oceans begins with responsible actions on land. Through our environmental sustainability and climate action initiatives, we work with schools, youth groups, communities, and partners to:
♻️ Promote plastic waste reduction, recycling, and upcycling.
🌱 Champion environmental education through the Green Schools Initiative.
🌍 Raise awareness on climate change and sustainable resource management.
👩🏽🎓 Empower young people with knowledge and practical solutions for environmental stewardship.
🌿 Support community-led actions that contribute to healthier ecosystems and a cleaner environment.
Our efforts directly contribute to several Sustainable Development Goals, including:
🔹 SDG 6 – Ensuring clean water and reducing pollution.
🔹 SDG 13 – Taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
🔹 SDG 14 – Conserving and sustainably using oceans, seas, and marine resources.
🔹 SDG 15 – Protecting ecosystems that are connected to water bodies and coastal environments.
🔹 SDG 17 – Strengthening collaboration for sustainable development.
This World Oceans Day, we call on individuals, institutions, and communities to take action by reducing plastic pollution, adopting environmentally friendly practices, supporting conservation efforts, and educating others about the importance of protecting our oceans.
Together, every action counts. Together, we can create cleaner waterways, healthier oceans, and a more sustainable future for all.

Today, our #LifeSkillsandValues Weekend Series-delves into nurturing empathy at home.
When children listen, share, comfort a sibling, help a friend, or notice how others feel, they are building an important social-emotional skill for life.
@UwezoUganda looks forward to hearing experiences on how you are helping grow empathy among children around you.

On #WorldOceansDay today, we join @UNESCO and the world in recognising the importance of ocean science. To us, this is also a critical reminder and opportunity to help children learn and care for the water resources around them.
@UwezoUganda believes that when children learn responsibility, curiosity and stewardship, they grow into citizens who can protect nature, use resources wisely and build a better future.

Building lasting partnerships takes more than a few moments of alignment. It requires sustained commitment, even when progress is slow.
At the #SkollWF “Women Grow Our Future” session, about how different actors can support smallholder women farmers, the discussion explored the vital role of collaboration in solving multifaceted, complex challenges like the economic and environmental sustainability of agriculture.
Alexandra Tuinstra, Chief Strategy Officer at @RootCapital, named what cross-sector collaboration actually demands: “It takes so much time. It really takes showing up: showing up and showing up and showing up—over and over again.”
Consistency and dedication are what turn shared values into shared impact.

Competences for the foundational level, life skills and values remain low; so @UwezoUganda can't rest. We also know that every school day attended counts and this why we remind you that any delay in a child’s return for the 2nd school term means-missed lessons and a harder catch-up.
We, therefore, call upon you all to support every learner to report to school early, attend regularly and keep building literacy, numeracy, life skills, values and more.

May ALLAH grace you & your Family with His Heavenly Blessings and Reward you abundantly for your holy sacrifice.
Happy Eid Al Adha Celebrations.
Blessings 🙏🙏🙏

#Day2 fieldwork for the Pre-Pilot ICAN-ICAR-ICASEL tool integration is continuing today at both sites in the Emergency and Non-Emergency (refugee) settings in two districts of Yumbe and Isingiro-all courtesy to the partnership between @UwezoUganda with @palnetworkHQ, @YfcUganda and @CCEDUC1.
A sneak preview on the context in which children are being assessed-in particular to Isingiro are-beautiful hills that musk the difficult obstacles children face in navigating movement to school and access to water among others.
This adversity is, however, also blended with hope-that being a predominantly banana growing district, parents have hope to food and an income.
