As always, it was an honor to cover this season of 49ers football. Thank you for reading and watching — I now enter Year 10, which might feature the most intriguing offseason yet (and I don’t say that lightly).
Thanks again!
Let's summarize where the 49ers are right now...
-No CMC
-No WR1 Aiyuk
-Hobbled WR2 Pearsall
-No TE1 Kittle or TE2 Tonges
-No DE1 Bosa
-No LB1 Warner
-No DE2 Mykel Williams
-LT Trent Williams hobbled with hamstring
We now know where the edge of the cliff is. And that's OK
After the Achilles tear, Jed York came into the 49ers locker room and asked George Kittle if there’s anything he could get him. Within minutes, that bottle of tequila was in the 49ers’ locker room.
A couple hours later, victory in Philadelphia was secured. A new piece of 49ers legend
Imagine walking out of the 49ers’ loss to Tampa, where Fred Warner shattered his ankle, and hearing someone predict that they’d clinch a playoff spot *with 3 games remaining*. Remarkable, odds-defying, unprecedented run. Cherish it
Grant Cohn: “As far as Ricky Pearsall goes, we see him sprinting on the side of the field, and shooting jumpers in the locker room, doesn’t mean he can play football, but he looks healthy. Can you shed light on what we’re not seeing?”
Kyle Shanahan: “Yeah you can’t play football, but shoot hoops as you said, so can any of us in here. He can run and hit certain speeds, but he hasn’t been able to hit his normal speeds that would allow him to come back. We don’t let people come back until they can hit their normal speeds before they got hurt or it makes them susceptible to injury again.”
