โข The government has earmarked approximately Rwf100 million to support youth-led enterprises producing hydroponic livestock fodder as Rwanda seeks to address seasonal feed shortages and boost milk production.
โข The #Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB) will initially support 10 hydroponic fodder production sites in Gatsibo and Rwamagana districts.
โข Youth cooperatives and companies will produce and sell nutritious fodder to dairy farmers, with the pilot facilities established at milk collection centres.
โข The initiative is part of efforts to increase Rwandaโs daily milk production from three million litres to 10 million litres by 2029.
โข Hydroponic fodder is grown from grains such as maize and wheat using water instead of soil and can be ready for livestock within about seven days.
โข Farmers using the technology report increased milk yields, with one farmer in Gicumbi saying production rose from seven litres to more than 10 litres per cow per day.
โข A UNDP-funded pilot involving 48 households in the Eastern Province recorded an average 42 per cent increase in daily milk production among participating farmers.

We do appreciate @uruhimbi for recognizing us as refugees. We wish you to come in Mahama refugee camp to do the same. We are lucky, here we have young refugees who were trained by Uruhimbi in this innovative technology in agriculture
The hydroponic system is a game-changer in modern agriculture, allowing plants to grow without soil by using nutrient-rich water. This innovative method is efficient, sustainable, and ideal for areas with limited land or harsh climates.

I, Cleophas was one of the 40 winners of the Igniting Innovation competition. My heartfelt gratitude goes to #UruhimbiKageyoCooperative for equipping me with invaluable skills in Hydroponic Fodder Technology and Business Development, making this achievement possible.
Today, our team is visiting farmers in Mahama Refugee Camp to observe and learn more about hydroponic farming in action. It allows crops to grow without soil, using nutrient-rich water to enhance production even in limited spaces. Itโs a game-changer in refugee settings.
An amazing day for us at Mahama Agro-Power! It was a pleasure meeting with Teresiah and her team from @UNDP. We truly appreciate the insights and knowledge shared your expertise mean a lot to us. Looking forward to future collaborations! #MahamaAgroPower#UNDP
