Ultimately, with the increase in fixtures, we are going to have to get used to games where key players are injured and plenty of games where big teams just try to get through and make sure the scoreboard looks right at full time. This is the future of football. Fans don’t want and haven’t asked for these extra games, players haven’t but the sponsors must be pleased, so attritional ‘win with minimum fuss’ type football (and teams like Arsenal can do that to teams like Shakhtar due to the financial disparity) is what football is in 2024.
