Nolan's framing of "Zeus' law" as the institutional foundation of a functional society, and what happens when that foundation is broken by men with an insatiable lust for power, wasn't lost on me.
Fitting for the time we are in.
Like of course he makes this movie following Oppenheimer. When Odysseus was retelling the story to Penelope, I was like him and Oppenheimer are brothers! Men who brought an end to a war but at the cost of their humanity and not actually leaving the world better.
Been the consistent schedule he releases on
Interstellar in 2014
Dunkirk in 2017
Tenet in 2020
Oppenheimer 2023
Odyssey 2026
I’ll be there opening night in 2029 for whatever he does next
Christopher Nolan says THE ODYSSEY is ultimately about the idea that a society can only function through respect for strangers.
He believes that, despite nearly 3,000 years since Homer wrote the epic, that fundamental truth about human nature hasn’t changed.
Rewatched The Dark Knight. It's still the movie that means the most to me in the entire world. It's an incredible adaptation of the character while also being a damn amazing film. Nobody understands it the way that I do. Its perfect.
It’s so fascinating how hopeful Nolan was for humanity in The Dark Knight and how humanity essentially let him down. Oppenheimer and The Odyssey explore that failure of humanity deeply. I truly believe if Nolan made TDK today one of the boats would’ve killed the other.
THE ODYSSEY has broken Avengers: Endgame’s record for the biggest advance ticket sales ever for a film in Greece.
A fitting milestone for a story that has been part of Greek culture for nearly 3,000 years.
Antinous really isn’t the most interesting villain on paper, but Pattinson showed you can give him any role and he’ll elevate it. One of the most memorable villains in Nolan’s filmography.
Je vais revenir sur cette scène des sirènes dans l’Odyssée.
Avait-on vraiment besoin de les voir ? Non.
Christopher Nolan is the director of my generation. He’s the defining director of this century. It is inconceivable that he followed up Oppenheimer with The Odyssey. A back-to-back run for the ages. Believe the hype. Nolan just made another masterpiece of epic scale & I need to see it again immediately. #TheOdyssey
