@RTaub_ Totally agree that the PP must be better but…he’s the second coming of Yashin. He’s quit on every team he’s played for. MTL’s powerplay was dreadful in the playoffs and they still wouldn’t play him. Isles have issues but at least it’s not the locker room. Can’t risk that IMHO.
Today is our nations Memorial Day. Enjoy your day and take a moment to remember the true meaning of this day. A day to pay our respects to all those who have given their lives in our country's defense. God bless these brave heroes and their families.
Denis Potvin, Hall of Famer and 4x Stanley Cup champion, put up 54 points as a rookie defenseman in 1973-74 and is considered one of the foundational cornerstones of the greatest American sports dynasty of all time.
Matthew Schaefer passing that mark more than 50 years later is incredibly significant because it was a benchmark set by one of the most important players the organization has ever had.
For the diehards, there is real symbolic weight with Schaefer passing this milestone. Potvin represents the #Isles original standard for greatness, something the team has been searching for ever since his departure.
Passing Potvin says Schaefer has moved beyond just having elite rookie season production and elevated himself into a tier that forces direct comparisons to one of the greatest defenseman of all time.
One that changed the fate of a franchise, so many years ago. And as we know, time has a funny way of repeating itself.
Before you scroll on, Let me leave you with one more thought to help you digest all of this. Denis Potvin was 20-years-old in his rookie season. Schaefer won’t turn 20 until the 2027-28 season.
Truly extraordinary what we’re witnessing.
@SperryTime@CAVENDISH8888 I appreciate what you are trying to say here Sean. My biggest issue is that Olivier is totally beat on this play clearly coming at Lee from behind. His only play is to push his back. If he was trying to defend from the side I might agree more with your point.
@richtorrey@DaveBismo 100% Rich…that puck doesn’t hop over Randy Carlisle’s stick the cup run ends…agree with @DaveBismo’s comment, JT’s will to win was incredible in that moment/game and made the difference.
@rayferraro21 Thanks Ray! You have your own special place in Isles history and Isles nation remembers you fondly! I will always wish we could have played Montreal with a healthy Pierre in ‘93!
@TonyMarinaro He was not trying to injure him…was it cheap sure, stirring up trouble sure…this is intent to injure a superstar…. https://t.co/1bNVg2zxyv
@kevinseanfeeney@richtorrey Our Dad was pretty high on him…he struggled to translate his play at the AHL and Finnish league to the NHL game. Understand that 60 games played is a small sample. Also the focus at RW was the development of Dalgarno and the emergence of Kerr made it hard to keep a spot for him.
@AustralianOpen@carlosalcaraz Amazing defense to offense…I can’t get over how much kick there was on the serve…he returned the serve when the ball was head high!
@IslesFix@richtorrey What an amazing night! It was a great recognition for our Dad to receive and helped provide “closure” for all. He loved the bow tie!
