@stefen_rosner @IslesDepression @TheElmonters @TheHockeyNews I don't think you need to fail a physical for his designation; it could be due to an injury he had before he was on the active roster. It just strikes me as odd, since they presumably knew he was dealing with it during the summer, so why have to take a physical?

[𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐱 @IslesFix]

@IslesDepression @stefen_rosner @TheElmonters @TheHockeyNews Maybe they said it during a press gaggle, but it wasn't reported anywhere and wasn't mentioned in the Darche video the team posted on Sept 17th.

[𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐱 @IslesFix]

@timothygilroy7 @13secondsofmat Hmm... thought that designation was to allow him to be activated as soon as he was deemed healthy rather than having to spend 7 days on IR

Love a good heel

Brady Tkachuk is LOVING every second of being the villain. 😈

Did I hear @StapeNHL say that Barzal failed his physical at the start of training camp?

Did we know that?

[Jonny Lazarus @JLazzy23]

New episode of Tri-State Hockey is out now.

@StapeNHL, @Rupper17 and I talked about the #Isles Mat Barzal situation.

We spoke a ton about the #NJDevils

Not as much #NYR today, but spoke about them in the final 10 minutes.

We'll be back on Friday!

Just got done recording Tri-State Hockey.

We went deep into the #Isles and what's happening with Mat Barzal.

We also spoke a lot about the #NJDevils. It was a little light on #NYR today, but we'll be back Friday with all 3 teams in action tomorrow night.

The show will be out shortly.

Would love to be in that group chat #Isles

[Stefen Rosner @stefen_rosner]

#Isles GM Mathieu Darche said other NHL GMs have taken notice of Victor Eklund’s play.

Darche praised the rookie’s relentless forechecking and willingness to attack the inside.

“He’s earned a spot on the team, and we hope he’s on the Island for a long time.”

[New York Islanders @NYIslanders]

#Isles GM and EVP Mathieu Darche spoke to the media today giving an update on Barzal, thoughts nine games into the season and more. ⬇️

[Chris Botta @ChrisBottaNHL]

This is amazing, crazy and beautiful.
Thank you, #Isles Country.

[Stefen Rosner @stefen_rosner]

#Isles GM Mathieu Darche said Logan Stanley has better puck skills than he initially expected.

Darche praised Stanley’s patience on breakouts, ability to find passing lanes and contributions to the penalty kill.

“He’s been a big break for us.”

[Ethan Sears @ethan_sears]

Mathieu Darche on Barzal: “The doctors would be comfortable for him to ramp up whenever he’s ready. So it’s not ‘Oh it’s all him,’ or ‘It’s all us (making the decision).’ We’re trying to work together on this but of course he has a big say. It’s his body. He knows how he feels.”

[Ethan Sears @ethan_sears]

Mathieu Darche on reports that Scott Mayfield may ask for a trade: “There’s no truth to any of those rumors.”

Mayfield’s agent, Matt Keator, was at UBS last night

[Russ Macias @rustymac26]

The #Isles are off to their best-ever start at UBS Arena with a 4-1-0 record.

NYI have one more home game Thursday, before a stretch of 8 of 12 games on the road, all but one of which are outside the Eastern Time Zone.

Stacking wins at home is key:

I think a coach like DeBoer raises the floor of any roster, and makes it easier to for someone to step in and play a role within a system #Isles

[Dan McCarthy @Dannzzigg]

@IslesFix Depends on the coach and the team. The key is matching the coach to the roster, which they've done

[𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐱 @IslesFix]

It’s early in DeBoer’s tenure, but between him and Trotz, is there ever a doubt that paying top dollar for a head coach is probably the smartest investment that a GM or owner can make? #Isles

Isles Fix: Building Blocks

“The last two games are probably our most complete 60-minute games, Other than sticking the puck in the net, we couldn’t have done much more. We did let them hang around because of our lack of finish.”
