'India was very disappointed by the behaviour of the United States under Trump, because in the years leading up to 2025, India was convinced that it had a special relationship with the United States, and it was relying on that special relationship. When the US Trump administration started applying high tariffs, threatening repeatedly Indians in more than one way, the Indians suddenly realised that the game had changed.

So now they are looking to other international relations. They're close to Russia as always. There's an effort on the part of the Chinese and the Indians to come closer together. It's very significant that President Xi Jinping is in Delhi for the summit. So we have these two giants, China and India, coming together, and nobody underestimates that.'
