Kotaku journos spent years portraying Ikumi Nakamura as a delightful, wholesome Japanese game creator but the moment she invited Elon Musk to try KEMURI at TGS its problematic calling the invitation “heartbreaking” and describing Musk as a Nazi.
Is this gaming journalism? She just invited someone to play her game
Analyst Mat Piscatella has responded to the PSBlackout claims, and his data doesn’t show much of an impact.
Someone asked him if he saw any changes that could be linked to the blackout. His response:
“There was no significant change at all in player count or engagement in our tracking.”
The PSBlackout was asking PlayStation users to stay logged out of their consoles and services for several days.
🚨I’m starting to believe Hiroki Totoki could single-handedly do more damage to Sony than any competitor ever could.
And the scary part is, he may actually think he’s saving it.
Sony built PlayStation by earning loyalty. Great hardware. Great studios. Great games. Physical ownership. Generations of people grew up with that logo sitting under their television.
Now look at the direction they’re going.
New PlayStation games stop being produced on physical discs starting in January 2028.
Hideo Kojima’s PHYSINT gets unexpectedly dropped by PlayStation, then three months later Xbox is standing there ready to pick it up.
Studios are being judged harder by budgets, deadlines and returns while the damage from Sony’s massive live-service gamble is still hanging over the brand.
And right in the middle of all of this, Totoki sold 225,000 shares of Sony stock for roughly $4.73 million, cutting his directly held position by more than half.🤔
Does that prove he has no confidence in Sony? No.
But if you’re a PlayStation customer watching all of this happen at the same time, you have every right to ask what the hell the long-term vision actually is.
This is what worries me about putting a numbers-first executive in charge of a creative company.
You can make a spreadsheet look better by cutting costs, eliminating manufacturing expenses, closing studios and canceling expensive projects.
But it crosses a line when the answer becomes pushing customers into a digital storefront where Sony controls the price, the license and the distribution.
You can squeeze every last percentage point out of a business and still destroy the very thing that made people love it in the first place.
That’s the part Wall Street spreadsheets don’t measure very well.
Trust. Loyalty. Ownership.
That feeling that when you spend $500 on the hardware and thousands more building a library around it, the company actually wants you there for the next 20 years.
Sony seems obsessed with asking, “How much money can PlayStation extract from each customer?”
They should be asking, “How many reasons are we giving that customer to stay?”
Because PC is sitting right there.
Xbox is changing direction.
Nintendo still understands the value of physical products.
And gamers have more choices than ever before.
We don’t have to go to Sony.
Sony is not too big to fall.
PlayStation is not too beloved to lose its audience.
Ask Sega. Ask BlackBerry. Ask Kodak.
Brand loyalty can take decades to build and a frighteningly short amount of time to burn through.
Hiroki Totoki may ultimately prove me completely wrong.
I hope he does.
Because I don’t want PlayStation destroyed.
I want Sony to be human again.
I want the PlayStation back that actually earned our loyalty instead of assuming it.
But right now, from where I’m sitting, Sony isn’t being attacked from the outside.
It is dismantling pieces of itself from the inside.
And if that continues, history may remember this era very differently than Sony’s executives expect.
Stockholders should be asking questions right about now.

Look guys this perfectly shows the difference between the PlayStation of the past and the PlayStation of today.
People like Shawn Layden understood it. He once said:
„Vib-Ribbon wasn’t a multimillion seller, and that’s not the point. Vib-Ribbon was unafraid to go against the tide… it brought a completely new experience to gamers.”
That mindset is gone. Today it’s all about chasing statistics, trends and short term profits.
And that’s exactly why PlayStation is where it is today.

A quick recap of @PlayStation and @Sony disastrous recent months. Choose wisely who you give your money next time.
🛑 Moving away from physical games
🛑 Raising prices across the ecosystem
🛑 Wasting billions on failed live-service projects
🛑 Cancelling major single-player games
🛑 Closing studios and laying off developers (Bluepoint)
🛑 Cutting ties with creators like Kojima
🛑 Destroying consumer trust with catastrophic communication
🛑 Removing purchased digital content such as movies, due to expired licenses
Great Job so far Hideaki Nishino and Hermen Hulst.
This isn’t bad luck. It’s catastrophic management.

Here’s a reminder that Kojima sold consoles, and people would’ve flocked to buy PlayStation 6 just to play PHYSINT on it🚀
Death Stranding was always a niche/art house type of game, and he did it because he believed in it, and it brought it 119 Game of the Year awards and various prestigious ones in other categories, and 20 million players.
Sony has been overspending on games ever since 2016, and missing deadlines and having unsustainably long development cycles, with the only exception being Kojima actually delivering games.
He established Kojima Productions by the end of 2015, and already announced Death Stranding in 2016 and launched it in 2019.
And he actually pushed each generation to its limits and created games that are perfectly polished and Director’s Cut scored higher than the OG DS, and DS2 scored even higher.
You don’t bring in Kojima because you just wants profit, you collaborate with him because his presence brings status, honor and awards to whoever he’s collaborating with.
Whoever made the decision to end the collaboration with Kojima on PHYSINT and continues to fund live service that is DOA, is who needs to be fired💿
IGN made a whole article about Sony's downfall that should be studied, they didn't get the check, or they're just tired of Sony's bullshit.
Basically what they argued is what normal people thinks:
> What was once the miracle formula behind Uncharted has basically become the default PlayStation template.
>Sony has spent years refining the same type of single-player blockbuster: huge cutscenes, accessible third-person combat, some light RPG mechanics, stealth sections through waist-high grass, and a meter you fill up to unleash a powerful ability.
>The result is incredibly polished, but also increasingly generic.
>Ghost of Yotei, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West are obviously very different games on the surface, but IGN argues that underneath, they share a lot of the same design language.
>The problem isn’t that these games are bad. It’s that what felt exciting ten years ago now feels increasingly familiar.
PlayStation magic formula is failing, it’s getting boring and generic, they need something new or just look at the games they made in past generations..
Even Shuhei Yoshida, a boss who worked for 31 years at the company, was surprised by Sony’s decision to let Hideo Kojima’s new game, Physint, move to Xbox.
“That surprised me…”
Physint was originally announced as a major PlayStation project with Kojima, and they had always worked together since Death Stranding.
A lot of people inside the industry were surprised by this, but Sony has really been making so many terrible decisions over the last few years.
The company needs a new vision and new leaders who start listening to consumers. Yes, something similar to what is happening with Xbox and Asha thats exactly what they need.
Mass layoffs at the company are also needed.
Sony wasted an once-in-a-lifetime golden opportunity with Hideo Kojima and PHYSINT🚀
✅Hideo Kojima was basically making a spiritual successor to Metal Gear
✅His games are always a major attraction for critical success and recognition outside the gaming world
✅He brought Death Stranding, a Sony funded game that he now owns, not only to 20 million players, but 119 Game of the Year awards, and many other categories by prestigious institutes like BAFTA
✅Death Stranding is being adapted at A24, one of the most respected production companies winning Oscars and racking up profits yearly
✅Collaborating with Kojima is not just about profits, but status, image and recognition. PHYSINT would’ve attracted millions of players who couldn’t trust Konami to do any good Metal Gear without him and waiting for Kojima himself to make something like it
✅It would’ve gained them countless awards and great reviews, something Sony has always been craving for
✅Sony wasted all of that and handed it to XBOX on a golden platter
Many of Sony’s studios are clearly unable to deliver a steady output of quality games and taking too long to deliver anything of value, and it’s always rinse and repeat of the same games.
Meanwhile, Kojima’s experimenting with new genres and ideas, regardless of profitability and he’s the epitome of creativity and elevating gaming beyond cookie cutter creations made for the lowest common denominators.
Sony is sabotaging themselves more effectively than any competitor could ever have, and they think sucking up to Rockstar is gonna put them in players’ good graces forever, but it feels like Sony is tarnishing GTA6’s image rather than the latter polishing theirs.
Sony’s hubris is their own worst enemy
And whatever goodwill they’ve had is gone
GTA VI can only elevate them for so long
And then comes the downfall
NO KOJIMA 🫡 NO BUY
NO DISC 💿 NO BUY
This mother fucker wants us to forget that they released FF7 remake and Rebirth on two discs a piece.
Hey, you piece of fucking shit: enjoy getting your fucking game pirated. There's a special spot in hell for people like you.
