@magpiewormeater Yup, I was not aware of their protections under the Fair Housing Act, but I was referring to them from the ADA perspective not the Fair Housing one.
Either way, I learned something tonight, which I appreciate.
@Kyru117@baerriese@Charlygotyou No, they're not a service animal and do not receive the same protections under the ADA.
I did learn that they do have protections under the Fair Housing Act. Still not the same thing.
@Charlygotyou Thank you to all the people who understand my statement and what I was getting at.
I did learn something about ESAs and their rights when it comes to housing, so I appreciate the people who pointed out they do have protections there.
@Pipluplin@Charlygotyou That is the part I take issue with! If they serve a legitimate purpose then yeah I'm 100% for it, but the people who are all "BUT MY FLUFFY IS JUST MY WORLD" and they don't have any kind of medical need? Yeah, they can kick rocks barefoot.
@peachciitrus@Charlygotyou So I learned tonight this statement was partially incorrect.
While ESAs are not the same thing as a service animal and do not have special protections under the ADA, they DO have protections under the Fair Housing Act.
@peachciitrus@Charlygotyou Using the pet an as ESA to get out of paying pet deposits or circumventing a no pets policy is the person implying their pet is a service animal because ESAs don't receive the same public access rights as service animals do.
@Pipluplin@Charlygotyou Yup, I just learned that tonight! I did post a comment saying I learned something about their rights when it comes to fair housing, but I guess I should have been more specific with that post.

@Epicmonster965@Charlygotyou That's all I said was they weren't the same.
I wasn't aware of the rights afforded to ESAs, with regard to housing, prior to this whole exchange, so I do appreciate people educating me on that for sure!
@365footy247@JCleverOne@Charlygotyou Fuck the slumlords, I hope they get what they deserve. I guess I should have made it more apparent that I don't support those dickheads.
@peilae Exactly what I would expect from someone with pink hair. Defaulting to name calling instead of pointing out anything I said that was incorrect.
ESAs and service animals are not the same thing. That is a factual statement.
@peilae@Charlygotyou I just use a tool to make a picture that I think looks cool. I never said I was an artist lmao
Artists are skilled people, I'm just a dude typing shit on a computer
@JCleverOne@Charlygotyou With respect to the fair housing act, the animals are still NOT treated as service animals, they are 'assistance animals' and again, do not receive the same protections as service animals.
