@sometimesalight @RungirlPs91 Nor is it grounds for questioning the integrity of those who might disagree. I’m targeting the pearl-clutching, not the hermeneutic itself or the interpretive dangers that come with legal or social anachronisms.
@sometimesalight@marcgoodwin The author is not afraid to clearly state when someone has been raped (cf 2Sam13, only two ch’s after the D&B acct). He chose not to use it. We’re now demanding that language, shaming those who won’t use it, & speaking as though only fools can’t see it—that’s irresponsible.
@sometimesalight@marcgoodwin I think we agree on all points. Truly. And I want that clear before I say another word.
Part of my point is that we’re forcing the text to say/mean something so that fits our modern categories. And to do so moves us into dangerous territory by those same standards.
@itssJoeyy I see the tweet has now been taken down 🙄🙄🙄 Good grief. Well, from what I can remember from that video, that animal looked pretty darn well fed. What you just said is wrong for ppl to do (no question). I’m just not convinced that “most animals” in captivity are starved.
@yashar@JKCorden The core of Maher’s argument was not “Shame is good.” The core was “Celebration of what is shameful (and pretending it’s not shameful, but good) is bad.” All the stuff Corden says about “struggling” with his weight and “trying” to do better proves that he’s not Maher’s target.
Scott has correctly defined true democracy. The problem is, the USA is not a true democracy, and never has been one. By design of the founders who understood the dangers there. We’re a constitutional republic.
@ACupofKofi You mean back to the days when Anthony Bradley was on Glenn Beck’s show warning people about the dangers of Black Liberation Theology?
Yeah. That’d be nice.
@enoughisbasta@justinamash Probably because hours after a man dies isn’t the time to score political points. It’s tasteless and self-aggrandizing. I thought we learned from Trump that those were bad things to be and do.
@LC_AnonThoughts This is bad policy, a bad decision, and just silly. But, FWIW, is absolutely not a violation of free speech acc to the law. LC is a private institution, and can legally require this from whomever chooses to come. Legal violation of free speech = gov’t enforced consequences.
