First of all, a heartfelt note of gratitude to Ms. @kiranshaw for taking a stand and urging the political leadership of #Karnataka to address the crumbling state of waste mismanagement and broken roads in her hometown of #Bengaluru. I am equally impressed by the promptness shown by Deputy CM Shri @DKShivakumar and others in responding to her civic expectations.

Ma’am, I live in #Dehradun, #Uttarakhand, where we are not accustomed to seeing our political leaders respond directly to citizens. They usually operate in a monologue mode, conveniently ignoring the growing chorus of citizen concerns over deforestation, rampant concretisation and a general sense of apathy toward everyday urban issues.

Given this background Ma’am, and taking a leaf from your book, I have reached out to several retired generals, judges, bureaucrats, industrialists, educationists and senior Delhi-based officials from Uttarakhand, urging them to speak with our Chief Minister Shri @pushkardhami and draw attention to similar issues locally.

I firmly believe that our political leadership must open up and engage in direct conversations with concerned citizens and civic groups. The chasm that exists today continues to widen with each passing day. The only consolation and the source of hope is that things can get better when governments and citizens genuinely come together over a sustained period of time.

Finally, thank you once again Ma’am, for inspiring and motivating me to take this step. I look forward to following you for greater insights on citizenship and improved urban governance.
