When part of Nepal’s Langtang Lirung glacier collapsed, millions of cubic metres of rock and ice plunged over a kilometre, triggering an earthquake and a debris flow that destroyed the China–Nepal border crossing and nearby villages.

Behold the sight of the renowned pilgrimage site of Bundelkhand, Jatashankar Dham, where the temple's sanctum has been submerged in water as Mother Ganga has arrived. Heavy rains continue to lash most parts of North India. #monsoon#rains

This is Kokura, the luckiest town in the world.
On 6th August, 1945 the town of Kokura was the back-up target for the atom bomb in case Hiroshima was obscured. It wasn't, and Kokura, an ammunitions hub, was spared.
Two days later, Kokura was the main target. The town was clearly visible initially, but while the B-29 bomber waited for an accompanying plane to catch up, clouds and smoke obscured the town and forced the Americans to instead bomb the back-up target, Nagasaki.
Visited Goa this year, and one thing stood out:
Even remote major roads 50–80 km from the beaches had smooth two-lane roads through forest areas.
Goa's high GDP per capita isn't just a statistic; it shows up in infrastructure. Prosperity matters.
What happened today in the Argentina vs. England game was absolute madness.
Imagine a game full of fouls, with barely any football being played and almost no real chances. Then, out of nowhere, England scored a scrappy goal and completely shut the game down. Thomas Tuchel even brought on three defenders—Dan Burn, Chris Rigg O’Riley, and Ezri Konsa—to protect the lead.
But Tuchel clearly didn’t learn from the Egypt vs. Argentina game. He forgot he was facing Lionel Messi, the greatest player in football history.
As always, Scaloni made the decisive adjustment. He moved Messi out wide and introduced Lautaro Martínez and Nicolás González alongside Julián Álvarez in the box, with Alexis Mac Allister arriving from midfield. Messi simply started delivering cross after cross.
The result? Enzo Fernández scored a stunning equalizer in the 86th minute, and Lautaro Martínez completed the comeback in the 92nd—both goals assisted by Messi.
A truly historic comeback.
A fully deserved place in the World Cup final for Argentina, who will now play in back-to-back World Cup finals for the first time in their history.
And above all, it’s another deserved moment for the greatest player in football history, Lionel Messi. 💙
The 2026 #FIFAWorldCup has a prize pool of $871 million, the biggest in football history.
How much is every country getting and where does the money come from? Al Jazeera’s eltahan_yasmeen explains.
The grass on Center Court at Wimbledon over the decades shows a change in the wear patterns. This transformation is not the result of new, more resilient turf or grounds keeping technologies, but due to changing racket technology.
In the era of wooden rackets, the heavy weight of the racket resulted in a "serve and volley" game. Given the impossibility of finishing a point from the back of the court, players resorted to volleying to win points at the net.
With the shift from wooden rackets to modern materials, the game moved towards powerful baseline play. Today's players are taller, hit hard from both sides, serve aggressively, and finish points predominantly from the back of the court.
Congratulations to @RCBTweets on winning consecutive @IPL titles. One of the challenges in sport is that success changes the questions you have to answer. After winning once, the task is no longer proving you can do it, but proving you can sustain it. RCB met that challenge impressively this season. A well-deserved achievement!
