@RutgersAltRoute A5: Communication is the key. An individual who is hurting feels alone and needs to know that he is being seen by others. We create a safe space where they can leave a note anonymously regarding an issue that is happening in our classroom.
@RutgersAltRoute I can teach kindness by showing kindness. I never discipline a student in front of others but rather take them aside. I emphasize that conflict is part of life and no two people are same but we need to celebrate each other's individuality.
@RutgersAltRoute A4: It's difficult to differentiate between conflict and HIB. A teacher needs to gauge the situation in her classroom constantly because it can create a negative effect in a classroom.
@RutgersAltRoute We use our time during PLC to discuss any incident/ behavioral issues that happened during the week. We discuss whether it's an isolated incident or reoccurring and how to navigate it.
@RutgersAltRoute In our classroom we celebrate wrong answers to promote participation. I visit the cafeteria during lunch time to gauge which student would need help with their social/emotions learning. It helps me build a structure in my classroom.
All teachers are teachers of literacy and numeracy. As a math teacher I need to effectively plan my lesson for the literacy demand of my students. The word problems need to be worded such that my students are clear about the question. #AltRtEd
Understanding, facts and ideas How do you develop connections? How can pedagogical content knowledge be improved? Learning is like housework, it's never done. #AltRtED#mathed
@RutgersAltRoute Having a set routine is extremely important. Knowing what is expected from them and knowing what they can expect from the teacher creates an environment with less uncertainty. #AltRdEd#sped
@RutgersAltRoute A lot of games and hands on activities. It's not easy to focus on-a screen without contact thus incorporating techniques such as find an object in the house that is a cube, next take their measurements. #AltRdEd#sped
@RutgersAltRoute A2 I encourage my students with diverse warning abilities to advocate for themselves, I encourage group activities and keep my class fluid thus they can change their seat. #AltRdEd#sped
As a teacher, am I obligated to reward a student on task? would he care if his peer gets the same reward even though he was not on task?@RHutch610@drjeremyc@TUPSchools
So glad to be reading about this as I begin my teaching journey. I thought I was helping my students get ready for the "real world" so not true. @drjeremyc@RHutch610@TUPSchools
