Advice from a has been that only played 2 years of college bball due to 3 ACL tears:
-Don’t take it for granted
-Put in extra hours
-Work hard every day
-Forget about the last possession
-Communicate at all times
-Cheer on teammates
-Bring energy
-Be intentional
-Listen to Coach
I’m not saying this for every case & I do see a need for balance. But this is not teaching our athletes anything. We see it at the college level- seek more $$ and transfer 4 times but credits get lost in the transfer putting those students back from graduating. No is bought in🤷🏻♀️
I disagree with this. We lose competition and create super teams. This would be a reason we lose coaches when kids leave because they don’t get “their’s” (playing time, starting spot, points). Encouraging victim mentality-quit when things are hard or aren’t going your way.
Your ability to play sports shouldn’t be contingent on your parents’ ability to afford an attorney. It’s time to eliminate the OSSAA and secure our progress with open transfer.
You are not being recruited if a coach follows you on Twitter
You are not being recruited if you are invited to a camp
You are not being recruited if a coach says nice game
You are being recruited if a coach calls or texts you in the last 2 weeks
Love showing videos of pros working to the young guys that think it is a waste of time.
You are never too good to keep getting better. Basketball is a game that you never master, and the moment you stop working on your craft you begin to go backwards
When i was a HS coach- I would complain why college coaches didn’t come to more games
Now as a College coach- i understand why
1) I need time off too- there is always a game somewhere that i feel guilty of missing. But it is not healthy for me to not spend time with my wife or re-energizing myself
2) it simply doesn’t move the needle in recruiting like it once did. The factors for making decisions and why have drastically changed for recruits. # of in person visits is rarely the decider
I still love HS basketball and love attending games and will!
But the days of 6 nights in a gym are just over for this one

I fully understand club sports and the purpose behind them. My own kids play and will continue to play in these types of programs. My issues is this: Please stop making kids feel guilty for trying to be a valued member of their high school programs in a different sport! What I am sick of, is clubs expect high school teams to always work around their big events, but if the club is asked to work around the HS program, the kids are threatened with no longer being on that team, or even better, told they can’t be on a certain team next year if they miss a particular tournament. There is value in club sports, especially as far as individual skills and competition level. There are also lessons in HS sports that cannot be taught in club, like playing in front of 2,000 fans in an emotional environment, with your towns name across your chest. There is value in learning how to perform in those types of situations and the pressure that comes with it! Student sections rushing the floor after huge wins are memories kids deserve to share as well! Just tired of the guilt trips and ultimatums that are forced on these kids as their careers continue. We are all in the kid business and must make them a priority physically and mentally. We must continue to find ways to work together in this arena , while promoting the idea that kids can play multiple sports if they choose to, and be encouraged by both sides to do so!
Fake Toughness
*Cheap shots
*Talking trash
*Taunting
*Handshake line scuffles
Real Toughness
*Practicing hard every day
*Playing for your teammates instead of yourself (overcoming selfishness)
*Doing the dirty work
*Playing through aches and pains
*Cheering on your teammates when you’re on the bench
*Playing through fatigue
*Making winning plays
