This the shit that’s gets me so juiced about this planet but also pisses me off bc there’s a group of shit ass people taking this away from me and future generations for money
The greatest pitfall of formal education is that it assigns us identity before means, about who we are & our entitlements in the economic order long before we have rendered requisite value.
When this identity/perceived value fails to yield means, we redirect our investment to the performance of the means eluding us rather than reinvention of the identity that deprived us of it in the 1st place, which further tightens the noose of poverty around our necks.
This sunk-cost fallacy partly explains the reluctance by graduates to partake in the informal sector, which remains the undisputed backbone of African economies, accounting for over 83% of employment, and less than 10% of the tax base.
You find 20% of the employed making up 90% of a country's income tax base. In many African countries (Kenya included), their contribution accounts for less than 1% of the annual income tax collections (Deloitte, 2024).
I think life becomes 100 times easier once you stop giving a fuck about what people will think about what you do/want and start doing things that you truly want to do and without feeling the need to explain yourself.
A number of people in STEM don’t like to hear this. But every society needs to have a healthy number of its educated adults in the humanities. And funded to a good extent too.
My propaganda for 2026:
Stop treating the coast as the only escape.
The Aberdares, Mt Kenya, Naro Moru and Nanyuki are some of the best weekends you’ll ever have.
