Short session at Littleton this morning, 26 birds mostly blackcaps but a Grasshopper Warbler was a nice surprise, not many caught at the site😊, All ringed under licence

A dull quiet afternoon at Catcott with just one great improvement, a female GARGANEY spent, very unusually, nearly two hours in view. Again my first for this year.

Good day with plenty of variety at Littleton reed/sedge/willow/cettis warblers, common and lesser white throat, blackcap, wren, Dunnock, blue and great tit and stars of the day a Kingfisher and male tawny owl 🦉 all ringed under licence

The Juv Lapwing I've followed for 43 days is now more independent and hard to follow so I've had to give up, it first flew at 33 days here it is from 1 day old 0n 14/6 and 43 days old on 28/7 and still with its parent!

Long weekend @SkokholmIsland well looked after by Rich and Giselle as always, had the honour of helping to colour ring the puffins and to ring some Pufflings, greater black-backed gull was a pleasant surprise yesterday morning. Myself and my daughter loved it, all under licence.

You have heard of Water Vole, now meet Water MOLE! At Catcott this afternoon a lifer for me, a swimming Mole.covered at least 30 yards at great speed see its wake,aided by it's massive fore feet, like a demented paddle steamer. Never even heard of one seen doing this before.

6 years ago today, sat in a hotel in Mexico drinking a cocktail when this beauty flew in to a wall, tried my best to save it and put it somewhere safe, hopefully it made it 😊

Day 2 @PortlandBirdObs another quiet day with 4 spotted fly catchers the highlight along with 2 lesser whitethroats, 1 returning from last year and a swallow. Halo run the sun was cool.
