Sorry everyone, staying on this platform is supporting it and that's something I can no longer consciously do.
If you like you can find me on the fediverse, see my profile.
Honestly, it’s getting super hard to continue as an ecologist & conservation biologist, with all that’s happening, is set to happen, & the unbelievably inadequate responses of governments. I frequently wonder, what am I achieving? I know so many others feel similarly. Hugs.
“U.S. officials asked their British counterparts to do the shooting if gunfire was required, and the British agreed, according to a former senior administration official.”
As of yesterday (July 25), the number of COVID-19 cases in Japan was estimated to be nearly120,000, and its positivity rate was nearly 50%.
I should note that other infectious diseases (herpangina, RSV, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, etc.) also have been notably increasing in Japan.

Before losing his seat, Howard chose to shout at delegates to the Reconciliation Convention rather than deliver the National Apology, and to set the army on to Indigenous communities in lieu of effective policy. I don't give a fuck what he says about the Voice. #auspol#Yes23
Take that in. Then try wrapping your head around the fact that we’re only seeing the beginning of a destabilising planet, while remembering that GHG emissions are still rising and the companies largely causing this are making record profits.
A bit concerning, don’t you think?
Don't forget, Richard Marles (the deputy PM you have when you're not having a deputy PM) oversaw or approved the appointment of Kathryn Campbell to her specially invented position - or didn't object to it
Campbell was given refuge & protection by Marles

It costs $368B, delivers a 1st sub in 10 years time, introduces nuclear reactors to Australia, benefits foreign shipyards over local, was announced as a fait accompli, and you don’t want it discussed at your party conference. Really @AlboMP? #auspol#AUKUS https://t.co/j1PAaX2IbL
EVERYONE should be using N95:
"National Institutes of Health study published on 25 May 2023 in JAMA found risk of Long Covid after infection by SARS-CoV-2 variant Omicron is approx 10% & risk of Long COVID after reinfection by Omicron is almost 20%" 😬

Sen Cash can argue all she likes that "the Dept signed the contracts" but this ignores (a) Dutton knew the Dept was signing contracts with an accused criminal & (b) whilst currently observed more in the breach, in a Westminster system the Minister takes responsibility. #auspol
13 years ago on July 25 began the publication of the Afghan War Diaries, here is Julian Assange speaking in 2011: "The goal is an endless war, not a successful war" #FreeAssange
How curious that <anyone> might think it odd that a system of incarcerating legitimate refugees, in violation of not only international norms, but actual international law, was based on corruption and lies.
Neither major party comes out well, here...

“All of our leaders, billionaires, & rich people are requiring PCR testing every single time somebody sees them. Every time they have an event they’re…paying companies to do intense screening. Then they take their maskless pictures, pretending it’s all ok, & you all follow.”
Wow, just wow. The planet is breaking.
Antarctic sea ice extent is the headline for me this morning. There was actually a net *decrease* in ice extent day over day, and it's mid-winter there, peak freeze season.
Extent is now 6.4 standard deviations below the 1991-2020 mean.
