The flash floods along Nepal’s Bhotekoshi River are absolutely devastating. 

Canadians are thinking of all those in distress right now, those who have lost a loved one, and all those who are still waiting for answers.

Our government is closely following the situation and asking all Canadians in the region to register with the ROCA system as soon as possible.

As rescue efforts continue, Canada stands ready to provide support.

घन्टिले पाएको मत देखेर रास्वपा नेतृत्व आफैं पनि छक्क परेको होला । दन्त्यकथाको त्यो नायकझैं, जसको हातमा अनपेक्षित रूपमा साम्राज्य परेको थियो । रबि–बालेन पनि आंकलन गर्दै होलान - रास्वपाले पाएको मतादेशको साम्राज्यका सिमाना कहाँबाट कसरी सुरु भएर कहाँ सकिन्छन !
दसकौ अघि, सगरमाथाका प्रथम आरोही सर एडमण्ड हिलारीले मसँगको अन्तर्वार्तामा भनेका थिए – ‘सगरमाथा आरोहण आफैंमा ठूलो कुरा होइन । तर शिखरमा टिक्नु मुख्य कुरा हो । चुचुरोमा टिक्ने ठाउँ धेरै हुँदैन र अक्सिजन थोरै हुन्छ । यो कुरा पर्वतारोहणका लागि मात्र होइन, जीवनका हरेक क्षेत्रमा लागू हुन्छ, विजय ।’

पहिला कसैले पाउँदै नपाएको बहुमत चाही होइन यो । दुनियामा, दक्षिण एसियामा र नेपालमा पनि विगतका कैयौं उदाहरण छन् प्रचण्ड बहुमत पाएका उदाहरण —र त्यो मतादेशलाई सम्हालेर, संगालेर राख्न नसकिएका उदाहरण पनि त्यतिकै धेरै छन् ।

भोलिका कुरा भोलि नै गरौँला । आजको दिन रबि लामिछानेको संगठनात्मक क्षमता, बालेनको क्रेज र जनताले रास्वपालाई दिएको जीतको दिन हो । बधाई छ । सफलताको कामना छ ।

ओलीजी र गगन थापाजीको पराजय मामुली पराजय होइन । उनीहरु, आआफ्नो केन्द्रीय समितिका महत्वपूर्ण पदाधिकारी समेत जसरी ‘सुपडा साफ’ भएका छन्, यसले गम्भीर आत्मनिरीक्षणको माग गर्छ ।

मतदानको केही दिनअघि, अमरेश सिंहको अनुरोधमा कफीमा भेट सम्झन्छु । उनले मलाई भनेका थिए – ‘दाजु, मलाई तपाईंको आशीर्वाद दिनुहोस् ।’

म सोचमग्न भएँ । विनीत भावले कोही मसँग यस्तो कुरा माग्दै थियो, जो म उसलाई दिन सक्दिनथेँ । मैले भनेँ – ‘अमरेशजी, गगनसँग मेरा सम्बन्धहरू धेरै पुराना छन् ।’

‘मलाई थाहा छ दाजु । तपाईंले आफ्नो मिडिया शक्ति र प्रभाव जसलाई दिए पनि हुन्छ, आशीर्वाद चाहिँ मलाई दिनुहोस्। आशिर्वाद माग्न त म पहिला आएको छु नि ! म जितिन भने तपाईंलाई मुख देखाउँदिन ।’

त्यो सुनेर मैले अमरेश सिंहजीलाई हल्का झपारेँ – ‘यस्तो कुरा मेरा अगाडि नगर्नुस प्लिज । राजनीति ठूलो हो, चुनावमा जितहारको महत्व छ तर त्यो नै सबथोक होइन नि। जितहार त चलिरहन्छ नि । ’

आज आइतबार बिहान यो लेख्न बस्दा समाचार देखेँ – ‘अमरेश सिंहले गगन थापालाई हराए ।’

अंग्रेजी भाषामा एउटा शब्द छ Giant Killer – राजनीति र खेलकुदमा प्रयोग हुन्छ, जब कसैले कुनै धेरै ठूलो स्थापित खेलाडीलाई पराजित गरिदिन्छ । नेपालीमा अनुवाद गर्दा दिग्गज-विजेता भन्न सकिन्छ होला, डा.अमरेश सिंहलाई वा झापा ५ मा जित्ने बालेनलाई ।

म सक्रिय पत्रकारितामा छैन । जब थिएँ, तब पनि खासै थिइनँ । अल्बर्ट कामुको कृति ‘आउटसाइडर’ को नायक जस्तै। तैपनि, म कृतज्ञ छु पत्रकारिता विधाप्रति, जसले मलाई जीवनका कति धेरै रङहरू देख्ने मौका दियो ।
