“New Yorkers want equitable housing. They want accessible housing. They want housing that their children can grow up in, and form communities in.”
Asia Thomas, Director of Organizing at Open New York at our #CityofYes for Housing rally today
We’re here at City Hall, kicking off the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity coalition with 100+ organizations saying Yes to Housing in all corners of our city!
Every neighborhood in New York City needs to be part of solving our housing affordability crisis — the City of Yes initiative will make that possible. Our statement:
These are the people who are basically deciding housing policy on the local level on Long Island.
Please listen to see why change is desperately needed.
“To go from a place that has so many resources to a place that has so few, it was really my first understanding about systemic injustice and inequality, but also about the power of our voices to help affect change,” - Rep. Justin J. Pearson .. Read more https://t.co/jEXF0xIF6B
🔥 from @Asia_The_Truth:
“I am under no pretense that the housing crisis can be fixed quickly, or that the Housing Compact is the perfect, end-all-be-all solution. But it is a critical start as the State starts to take exclusionary zoning seriously.”

We teamed up with @OpenNYForAll to collect petition signatures to bring affordable housing, a state of the art museum, and modern MTA facilities to Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Let's build Monitor Point!
Last night, our Director of Organizing Asia Thomas shared her testimony about being forced to leave Long Island due to the lack of housing options. We need to pass the New York Housing Compact so young people can afford to stay in the communities they grew up in.
Let’s continue our momentum and rally for the NYS Housing Compact in Garden City!
This legislation will positively impact ALL of Long Island and we must show our support in different communities.
Exciting news: Special guest @resnikoff of @cayimby will be joining our general meeting on Monday, 2/27 at 6:30pm!

Today I met w/ Legislators on both sides of the aisle from Westchester & Long Island- some oppose @GovKathyHochul’s #HousingCompact bc they want local control; some want to improve it & some enthusiastically support. EVERYONE agreed we need more #affordablehousing#NYNeighbors
Local 79 teamed up with @OpenNYForAll to talk to community members about the rezoning proposal to build much needed new housing at 1880 Coney Island Ave, which will bring more than twice the number of affordable homes built in Brooklyn community district 12 in the last decade!
