C. Calcium, the mineral that keeps nerves quiet.
Low ionised calcium reduces the charge screening at the neuronal membrane, so voltage gated sodium channels open closer to resting potential and nerves fire spontaneously, causing perioral tingling, spasms and tetany, with Chvostek and Trousseau signs. Magnesium deficiency can look identical, but mainly by impairing parathyroid hormone release and causing hypocalcaemia, so calcium is the direct answer. Low potassium hyperpolarises muscle and causes weakness and cramps, and low sodium causes cerebral oedema with confusion, not perioral tingling.
