ASLEF General Secretary Dave Calfe responds to the awful incident near Bedford yesterday.
Our thoughts are with the family, friends and loved ones of our member and valued colleague who tragically died, and with the passengers, on-board crew and the whole of the railway family.
Our thoughts tonight are with the family and friends of the driver who died in the crash near Bedford today, and with the passengers injured in the accident.
We want to thank the emergency services who responded so quickly to help those on board and are still at the scene.
We are deeply concerned by reports of the collision of two trains near Bedford. Our thoughts at this time are with all staff and passengers on board.
Thank you to the emergency services for their ongoing work responding to the incident.

Thank you to @ASLEFunion for inviting me to speak at your District Council meeting.
It was a pleasure to meet members, discuss political challenges and hear your thoughts about the rail industry.
The questions were thoughtful and insightful. Solidarity.โ๐
Thank you @larry_turner for highlighting our campaign and raising the important point around access to welfare facilities for our members working in the freight sector during the Westminster Hall Debate on the role of rail freight in the transport network. #railfreightfuture
We welcomed the amendments covering travel facilities, pension schemes and TUPE protections and the government's response. We will continue to engage with the government and DFTO as the work goes on to put in place the necessary structures for GBR to be a success
Next stop on the way to GBR ๐
On Wednesday 10 June the Railways Bill passed the 3rd reading and its final stage in the House of Commons. It now moves on to the House of Lords.
This is another important stop on the way to the formal creation of Great British Railways.
We have been campaigning for public ownership of rail for years.
Itโs wonderful to see that work, alongside those of the rail unions, recognised in parliament today.
Thank you @switherdenMP for working with us.
Our public services should work for us. Not private shareholders.
The Railways Bill is the biggest reversal of rail privatisation in a generation.
Great British Railways can end fragmentation and reinvest in services.
And it can improve conditions for passengers and employees alike.
A pleasure to welcome @ASLEFunion young members to MML this afternoon for a special tour & to discuss collaborative work on trade union history and political education โ
Great British Railways must mean conditions on the railway go forwards, not backwards.
Our annual conference today committed to work for harmonisation of Ts&Cs, national standard part-time arrangements and no use of AI to undermine jobs. #AAD26

Our #BrumBinStrike rep - and now Unite EC member - Danny Taylor is speaking at @ASLEFunion conference today.
Throughout this epic dispute, the support and solidarity from the wider trade union movement has been incredible.
When we have each others' backs, we're unstoppable.
Massive thanks to our affiliate, train drivers' union @ASLEFunion, whose conference is meeting this week, for donating ยฃ5,000 to our appeal for underground schools in Pavlohrad and Kryvyi Rih! Please raise in your union too, and donate individually at https://t.co/ZSeVAw3LiY
