#Coming_UP: The Standard Signal | Ep. 11: Meles Zenawi’s Nightmare Revisited: GERD, Gulf Money, and the Unmaking of Sovereignty
Fifteen years ago, Ethiopia’s late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi warned that his nightmare would be an “Egyptian agenda financed by Gulf money.” Today, that warning reads less like prophecy and more like diagnosis. The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Ethiopia’s clearest symbol of sovereignty, is facing a coercive rhetoric from the U.S., and Gulf money, particularly from the United Arab Emirates, is deepening its imprint on Ethiopia’s economy, security, and diplomacy.
Is Ethiopia’s sovereignty being defended, or quietly traded? Has Meles Zenawi’s nightmare already arrived?
In this episode of The Standard Signal, Tsedale Lemma speaks with Jawar Mohammed to examine how this convergence in the Horn of Africa is exposing the growing fragility of the Ethiopian state.

#Coming_UP: The Standard Signal | Ep. 10: PM Abiy Ahmed, Ethiopian Intellectuals, and Power
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s January lecture at Addis Abeba University framed itself as a reflection on intellectuals, leadership, and national prosperity, defining who counts as an intellectual and assessing the role of ideas and academic institutions in Ethiopia’s history.
But who defines intellectuals? Why does it matter?
In this episode of The Standard Signal, Tsedale Lemma speaks with historian and public intellectual Ezekiel Gebissa to critically examine the lecture, probing what happens when power speaks in the language of ideas, and how this shapes intellectual autonomy and epistemic freedom.
Premiers at: 7:30 PM tonight.

SHOCKING CORRUPTION INSIDE Siinqee Bank
If you’ve been following this page, you may have noticed the growing public complaints about the illegal and coercive deposit collection practices of Siinqee Bank. Rather than operating as a genuine financial institution, Siinqee is functioning as an exploitative arm of the ruling oligarchy in Oromia.
Farmers, cooperatives, small businesses and NGOs are forced by the Oromia regional government to deposit their earnings exclusively with Siinqee. Once collected, these funds are funneled to businessmen tied to government officials, often handed out with little or no collateral. In other words, people’s hard-earned money is being diverted to enrich a few corrupt network that is operating like a cartel.
I recently obtained a confidential audit report from the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) that confirms exactly what the public has been saying all along. To better understand its implications, I shared it with several financial experts. I am also uploading the NBE audit report, together with an expert analysis, into a public Google Doc for open access to both the public and the media.
You can find the link to the google docs below.

Fake News Alert:
The same regime that boasted it had “cleared Oromia of the OLA” is now claiming that hundreds of OLA fighters surrendered in Guji alone. The propaganda line collapses under its own contradiction. This poorly written script has also featured "bushmen" conveniently attired in fresh denim and leather jackets--a scripted performance that insults the intelligence of the public.

The last PP’s Council stated that the Party had registered progress “in all sectors” despite facing “immense challenges.” Do the PP leaders and the Ethiopian population live in the same country?

@Jawar_Mohammed I have felt the same. In deed it’s very saddening, The great brotherly Sidama people deserves a servant and accountable administration; not such corrupt and self enriching Prosperity Party loyalists.
Abiy Ahmed's militia forces set fire to six houses belonging to family members and neighbors in Yaayyaa Gullalle district on allegations of payment of taxes. The affected properties are those of Tarree Ida'aa Gonfaa, Maammush Ida'aa Gonfaa, Bokii Lammeessaa Garasuu, and Ittiiqaa Damee Nagaash. All their modest belongings, essential for their livelihoods, were destroyed in the blaze.

@ONLFofficial The PP’s modus operandi against all the opposition parties/forces is the same: devide, weaken, intimidate, bribe and co-opt individuals to the PP and subsequently totally incapacitate and marginalize them in order to establish a totalitarian/tyrannical one person rule.
