Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei has claimed that Iran used its advanced missile against a U.S. warship, with Iranian reports saying the missile reached the vicinity of the USS George Washington. The U.S. has confirmed that Iranian ballistic missiles targeted an American carrier and destroyer in September, but says the ships successfully evaded the attacks.

Iran says its newer missile has improved accuracy and manoeuvrability, but the specific claim that a missile detonated directly over the carrier has not been independently confirmed.

Rezaei has also claimed that Iran is reverse-engineering American underwater technology, including a system he says can conduct surveillance at extreme depths. That claim has also not been independently verified.
