Thread about wartime sexual violence- Comparing previous GBV data in the community or the usual increase of GBV during emergencies with wartime sexual violence is being ignorant on the subject matter at best or purposely being malicious at worst. 1/n
35 years ago today, the Tigrayan people defeated one of the most brutal and genocidal regime in history. The Derg had one of the largest armies in Africa, but the will of a people determined to defeat brutality prevailed. #Gunbet20
As my father talks on a video, I hear a sound of a jet. Generation after generation, we are traumatized by their sounds and the bombardments we have witnessed. Praying for peace in Tigray
Fighter jets seen in Mekelle skies today. When the war on Tigray started, that was the first thing we saw. Many of us had a trust that no government would bombard its own people and that no other people would support it; we were wrong.
May Peace Prevail in Tigray.
#Tigray: Fighter jet reported over Mekelle in first such sighting since the Pretoria agreement
A fighter jet was seen maneuvering over the skies of Mekelle today, according to residents marking the first military aircraft activity over the city since the signing of the CoHA.
A senior Tigrayan journalist, Yohannes Berhane, has been detained since March 19, 2026, and his whereabouts are still unknown. He was abducted by individuals in civilian clothing and taken in an unlicensed vehicle in Mekelle. @pressfreedom@CPJAfrica

Hana*, 21, was abducted from home by 10 Eritrean soldiers and held for four days at a military base. “They first locked me in a room. Then, over four days, I was raped repeatedly. At the end, they poured acid on my head.”

🚨An Emergency Appeal from #Tigray's Bureau of Health (@TigrayRHB)
To avoid "imminent operational collapse", they need fuel, medicine, and funding.
There have been no refills of essential meds in 2026 and no fuel since Jan. Docs got 1/2 salary in Dec 2025, nothing since.

In Tigray, where fuel is sold informally on the streets due to siege-like conditions, petrol costs $9.77 per gallon.
In Cuba, a country internationally reported to be experiencing acute fuel shortages, petrol costs $4.90 per gallon.
Tigray's price is almost double that of Cuba
Fifty-one years ago today marks the beginning of the struggle of the Tigrayan people against the genocidal Dergue regime that massacred and starved hundreds of thousands of Tigrayans. Women played a central role in fighting gender norms and genocide.
Happy Lekatit 11.
In Tigray, there is a saying “ሕማቕ መገላገሊ; መቃተሊ" which means “A bad peacemaker (mediator) leads to people killing each other”.
We are forced to witness such devastation and we don’t even know what is to come. We are robbed of our past, present and our future!
What our families are living through is an untold siege in Tigray. People are lining up in banks begging to withdraw their hard-earned money. Those who can withdraw money are allowed to withdraw only $5 (1,000 birr) after lining up in front of the bank all day
I would never understand why these politicians keep showing up on religious holidays, creating commotion, and with the desire to show their importance. If anything, they should be banned from any religious and social holidays. n/n
Two years ago, I was in Shire for the Holy Trinity Religious holiday. When Debretsion and Getachew arrived at the church, the security personnel attempted to clear the way for their vehicles, accompanied by patrols armed with machine guns. Believers showed their disdain 1/n
These politicians attend religious events not as believers among believers, but as symbols of authority seeking legitimacy, borrowing moral capital from faith institutions. This is especially jarring in communities that have endured trauma, conflict, and loss. 3/n
Thanks to the continuous support and contribution from @TdrFund supporters, TDRF is allocating 20,000 USD for IDPs in Tigray. Given the need, this is just the tip of the iceberg. In camps such as Adi-Mohammeday 282 people have died. No one should die of hunger!
The Tigray Disaster Relief Fund is allocating $20,000 USD for urgent emergency relief to internally displaced people in Tigray.
This is an immediate act of solidarity with families in crisis. A global fundraising campaign launches soon.
Stand with Tigray. Act now.
.@KenyaAirports I lost a painting at Nairobi Airport in August 2025 in the boarding area. I have been trying to contact you over email; unfortunately, I have not succeeded. The painting was done by a young girl and tells a lot of stories. I want to plead for you to respond to me
Dear @KenyaAirports: A passenger lost a valuable painting at Nairobi JKIA.
@AssefaSamrawit misplaced a painting depicting the horrors of the Tigray War and the massive use of sexual assault as weapon of war.
The painting is of immense value to her and many survivors of the war.
Close to 120k women suffered sexual violence in Tigray.
Locating and returning this painting to her will be a great act of humanity.
Thank you.
