Eliot Engel was a giant of New York politics and one of the greatest champions the Bronx has ever had in Congress. He served for more than three decades with unyielding dedication, fighting for his constituents and standing up for democracy around the world.

With Kosovo formally an independent state and diplomatic relations established, the next step was to reflect that relationship in our diplomatic presence. On April 8, 2008, the status of the U.S. Mission in Pristina officially changed from a U.S. Office to a U.S. Embassy. As a result, the official title of the mission became U.S. Embassy Pristina. Here we go again: Serbia stands with regimes and against democratic nations!

🇺🇸 While America is bringing freedom to the people of Iran, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic chooses to defend a regime that threatens global security and terrorizes the entire region.

This action by Belgrade does not surprise me at all. Serbia’s history shows that it does not seek democracy, but oppression and bloodshed.

- They are the ones who started the wars in the Balkans.
- They are the ones who killed and massacred hundreds of thousands of people in the former Yugoslavia.
- They are the ones who expelled people from their lands.

Instead of acknowledging what it has done and taking responsibility for the crimes it committed, Serbia continues to oppose NATO’s intervention, continues to view Republic of Kosova 🇽🇰 as part of its territory, and takes actions that destabilize the entire Western Balkans.

Today’s reaction by @avucic against @realDonaldTrump reveals the true face of Serbia and its alliances with Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea — as well as with other countries that threaten global order and security.
