🎉 🎉@esa’s #FLEX and @CopernicusEU's #Sentinel-3C are in space and healthy: we don’t just have one mission, we have two! 🚀🛰️🛰️
👏Congratulations to the engineers, operators, flight dynamics experts, ground station teams and partners who made this remarkable dual-spacecraft launch a success.

Characterizing the small scales of the ionosphere 📏
8 years of high-resolution Swarm data were processed to take a look.
Preprint!

Researchers have created the only model of the Earth’s main magnetic field based on data just from Swarm’s absolute scalar magnetometer 🧲 🌍
It turns out to be one of the candidate models closest to the final official DGRF model! 💅

'Star trackers' turned storm trackers👀
During a geomagnetic storm in November, @esa_swarm detected a rare spike of high-energy protons at Earth’s poles with its 'star trackers', instruments normally used for satellite navigation and orientation. https://t.co/2zAcme0nZ4

22.1 billion euros subscribed.
A record.
A first.
And a clear message that Europe is serious about space and that @ESA is the agency it trusts to deliver.
A historic Ministerial. A united Europe. A stronger ESA.

There's a prize 🎁
Swarm was swimming in the soupy magnetic mess of last night's geomagnetic storm.
Here, two images from Swarm Alpha and Swarm FAST data show the start of the storm, and its continued impact
🧲 Magnetic Monday 🧲
Swarm's record-breaking 11 year continuous spaceborne record of Earth's magnetic field shows the South Atlantic Anomaly has increased by an area half the size of continental Europe since 2014.

⚡ When Swarm meets Thor ⚡
As we pass the torch to NanoMagSat, literally and metaphorically, our digital troubadour @Juggling_Doctor of @ejrquartz, forged a modern Edda to hand over to the NanoMagSat symposium: Swarm's torch, like Thor's sons Modi and Magni find the hammer Mjollnir after Ragnarok, taken up by a new generation of magnetic field monitoring missions.
Can you also spot the science references? 🧲☀️⚡🌬️
Apt, as Swarm has strong Nordic links, our DISC led by Denmark's DTU, and our data workshop being held in Oslo.
In the skull of the giant Ymir
held aloft from Norðri to Suðri
there shine the Fiskikarlar,
three stars,
like the Rimtöll's fishermen of Norse tales of old
who cast their lines round Miðgard's globe,
bait dangling on the boom,
bursting through the electric sea,
bubbles deep and shallow
as Jörmungandr escapes Thor's thunderous hammer,
whistlers streaming his lightning rage.
Three stars: alpha, bravo, charlie,
bright midst the Valkyrie's scintillating shield,
cascading Sól's energetic rays,
thermosphere dense in her fire chariot's wake.
Even she will one day succumb
to the jaws of Fenrir and Sköll.
Wolves at the gate
herald the end of days.
Ragnarok.
Alpha and Charlie, like the Æsir, will nose dive.
When? Only mischievous Loki will decide...
...but we cannot mourn.
Our four year mission has flown for a dozen,
and just imagine the science we still have in store.
But even Ragnarok brought a new dawn.
Like Baldr, the shining one, Bravo flies on
to welcome the new sons of Odin and Thor:
Vidar and Vali, Modi and Magni
-MSS, CSES and NanoMagSat-
who find the hammer Mjollnir and carry the torch,
the future of spaceborne magnetometry secure.
And for Swarm, fingers crossed, we'll reach 2034.
Skål!
🧭 Opportunity! 🧭
We're looking for a postdoc to work on the newly launched 4D Earth Core + project!
The main goal of the postdoc will consist in setting up a benchmark for the recovery of snapshot and transient motions at the top of Earth's core.

Read how @esa_swarm mission, the US–German GRACE mission and ground-based instrument networks were used to develop a cutting-edge method that tracked and quantified the scale of atmospheric density changes resulting from auroral Joule heating during 276 geomagnetic storms between 2010 and 2024: https://t.co/UWgRGKQKjC
It was a great session to chair, were we discussed with the scientific community the upcoming potential directions on ionosphere science at @esa ! #4Dionosphere@esa_swarm

Green = mainly rainforest
Red = forested floodplains and wetlands
Blue–purple = grasslands
Black = rivers and lakes
