Thereās Something About The Adeleke Family That I Find Interesting
Watching this video genuinely made me stop and think.
@davido is sitting at the table with members of the Adeleke family ā B-Red, Folashade, Nikos and others ā and then they all stand up and give him a standing ovation. šš½ā¤ļø
And honestly, it wasnāt even the applause itself that caught my attention. It was the symbolism behind it.
Think about the dynamics here.
Davido is arguably the most globally recognised entertainer in that family. He has built a career that has taken him far beyond Nigeria, becoming one of Africaās biggest music exports. Yet, interestingly, he is also one of the younger members of this family.
That alone could create a very interesting family dynamic.
Imagine growing up with people who are older than you, only for one of the younger ones to eventually become significantly more famous, wealthier and more influential than many of the older members of the family.
In some families, that kind of situation can create jealousy, competition, resentment or unnecessary comparison.
But what I saw in that video was something different.
They stood up for him. They celebrated him.
And I think thatās something worth appreciating.
During the Osun State election, Davido didnāt exactly sit on the sidelines. He used his enormous social-media platforms to openly support his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke. He spoke about the election, amplified the campaign and consistently made his position known.
Whether you agree with his politics or not, thereās no denying that he publicly showed support for his family.
So seeing members of that same family later stand up and applaud him made me think about something bigger than politics or music.
Success within a family doesnāt always have to become a competition.
Someone elseās success doesnāt reduce yours.
Your younger brother becoming richer than you doesnāt make you less successful. Your cousin becoming more famous than you doesnāt erase your own achievements. Someone elseās spotlight doesnāt necessarily mean yours has gone off.
And perhaps thatās one of the healthiest things about a family ā being able to genuinely celebrate the person who has gone further without feeling threatened by their success.
Of course, none of us knows what happens behind closed doors, and one video cannot tell us everything about a family. But from the outside, moments like this are refreshing to see.
Because sometimes the biggest flex isnāt being the richest person in the room.
Itās being surrounded by people who are genuinely happy to see you win. ā¤ļø
And that standing ovation said a lot more than just āwell done.ā I love this family š„¹ā¤ļø

What heās describing here is the trap of necessity and itās actually something people donāt talk about enough.
Sometimes you start something because you need to survive. You tell yourself, āIāll just do this for now, make some money, then move on to something I actually want to do.ā
But life happens. Responsibility comes in. Bills come in. Family starts depending on you. Your lifestyle adjusts to that income. Before you know it, that ātemporaryā job has become the only thing you know how to do that reliably puts food on your table.
And thatās where the trap comes in.
You may hate the job. You may know deep down that you donāt want to do it for the rest of your life. But leaving suddenly becomes almost impossible because you donāt have anything else to replace it with.
Thatās why I think financial independence is deeper than just having money. Itās about having options.
Learning another skill, building another source of income, saving money, investing in yourself, all of these things give you an exit. Because the real freedom isnāt just being able to say, I quit. Itās being in a position where quitting doesnāt destroy your life.
You donāt want to get to a point where youāre staying somewhere simply because you canāt afford to leave.
Thatās the trap of necessity something you once chose eventually becomes something you feel you have no choice but to continue doing.
So sometimes, the goal shouldnāt just be to make money. It should be to build enough options that your survival isnāt tied to one thing.
