As a Christian psychiatry resident, I hope to foster conversations about the difference between spiritual and mental health. It is important to recognize that faith, meds, and therapy each play important roles for people who are dealing with depression.

Your well-being shapes how you feel, think, and move through life. 🌿 Prioritizing your mental and spiritual health allows you to show up stronger for yourself and others. Small, daily steps lead to lasting peace and joy, so take time to care for yourself today. ♥️
Self-care is a powerful act of love, especially for our community. In our busy lives, simple practices like journaling our thoughts, losing ourselves in soulful music, or taking a quiet moment to meditate can make all the difference.

Honestly so honored that Kathryn Post of @RNS wanted to feature the important work @CMHIconnect does to spread Hope and mental health education throughout the global church. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 I’m grateful for an amazing, impactful team #faithandmentalhealth#mentalhealth
“Mental illness is a real thing, like diabetes, like cancer or like high blood pressure, that can be treated and is not a derogatory term,” said Dr. Atasha Jordan, founder of the Christian Mental Health Initiative.

The onus to CHANGE MEDICINE can’t ONLY be on doctors. I think society needs to recognize that doctors are leaving, or looking to leave earlier than ever. We should ALL want healthcare reshaped because it affects our health, collectively. Reshaping medicine usually means startups. Or advocacy. And those rarely pay the bills (not to mention they aren’t in our usual wheelhouse, as we didn’t study in those fields). So I’m not sure how doctors alone can change things significantly enough.
@DrCorriel@KennethJPerry These data aren't apples to apples, but either way: Folks are leaving. FAST. I meet nurses everyday looking for alternative options. Docs think about it too but the time investment is so much greater so it feels much heavier to quit.
I'm very grateful for a job that I love.
@DrCorriel@KennethJPerry 23.8% of newly hired registered nurses (RNs) leave within the first year, and 50% leave within two years (AACN data).
The past two calendar years saw about 71,300 physicians leave the profession, or nearly 7% of the country's total active physician workforce. (Industry Report)
I'm back to blogging after a ~3-year hiatus!!! My newest post is just in time for us to use up the remaining 2024 CME funds. If you're looking for good psychiatry textbooks, I have a few recommendations :)
