🇹🇿🤝🇫🇷 AKF is delighted to announce the signing a new memorandum of understanding with @AFD_France to advance coastal resilience and regenerative agriculture in #Tanzania - building on nearly two decades of partnership between the French Republic, the Ismaili Imamat and the @akdn and over $1 billion in joint investment across 20 countries.

✍️ The MOU was signed on 12 May by Éléonore Caroit, France’s Minister Delegate for Francophonie, International Partnerships and French Nationals Abroad; Christophe Lecourtier, Chief Executive Officer of AFD; Shamir Samdjee, Official Representative of the Ismaili Imamat to the French Republic; and Dr. @MattReedAKDN, Director of Institutional Partnerships at AKF.

🔵 Under the MOU, AKF and AFD will work together in Tanzania on two fronts: protecting marine and coastal ecosystems, in partnership with government ministries in both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar; and supporting smallholder farmers in coastal communities to adopt climate-resilient farming that boosts food security, biodiversity and livelihoods.

🌿 A preliminary €38.5 million is earmarked for the marine ecosystems work, combining resources from AFD and AKF. The agreement builds on a Declaration of Intent signed in Paris in July 2025 in support of AKF's 10-year Indian Ocean 'ReGeneration' Initiative — which has already planted more than 1.7 million mangroves on the Tanzanian coast since 2023.

🇰🇪 The signing took place on the sidelines of the #AfricaForwardSummit in Nairobi, Kenya, which brought together African heads of state, the President of France, the African Union, international financial institutions and development partners.
