On Saturday 8th July, members of GTS were on patrol doing routine site visits, while at the OBC Centre GTS reaction officer noticed an armed robbery.

Suspects got into a silver Toyota corolla and began chasing away.

GTS member immediately called for back up from Gauteng Highway Patrol.

A chase ensued and the suspects began shooting at the members, members returned fire.

Driver was shot, the driver continued to attempt to evade members and crashed into a motorist on rifle range.

Two suspects managed to get away, the suspect who was shot attempted to flea but was apprehended.

Various items belonging to victims were recovered in the vehicle.

It was established that the vehicle was affixed with false registration numbers and possibly linked to other robberies.

While engaging with the victim a second victim arrived stating that the same suspects had just robbed his daughter at gunpoint at Southgate.

Case of armed robbery was being opened at mondeor.

All necessary services were called.

Suspect to face charges of
1. Attempted murder
2 2 x counts of armed robbery
3 reckless and negligent driving.

#sapsKZN At about 22:00, last night a gang of armed men forced 6 trucks drivers to stop their trucks on the Van Reenens Pass. They then set all 6 trucks alight, causing the roadway to be closed to traffic. No injuries were reported. At this stage the motive for the attack is unknown. Van Reenen detectives are investigating a case of Malicious Damage to Property. A large police deployment including the #SAPS Public Order Policing Unit is monitoring the situation. The road is still closed at this stage. ME
