In 1930, Singh was the first to complete the journey solo, in his aircraft which he named "Miss India". However, he missed the deadline by one day and the prize was awarded to pilot Aspy Engineer. Singh later also became the first Indian to fly solo to South Africa from England.

Subedar Joginder Singh Sahnan, PVC (26 September 1921-23 October 1962),was an Indian Army soldier who posthumously received India's highest military gallantry award,the Param Vir Chakra.Singh joined the British Indian Army in 1936 and served in the 1st battalion of the Sikh Regi.

Captain Bana Singh (Retired) was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest gallantry award for his contribution to 'Operation Rajiv'. He is known to have captured Pakistan's Qaid Post in Siachen Glacier and hoisted the national flag. The post was renamed 'Bana Post' after that.
