Texas’ economy continues to grow, reaching a new milestone of $2.9 trillion.
Growth like this depends on many factors, but a fair and reliable legal system is part of it. Courts help by resolving disputes and applying the law consistently.
That kind of stability helps keep opportunity strong across Texas.

The oath taken by every judge is clear and specific. Uphold the Constitution. Apply the law faithfully.
That commitment guides every case before the Court.
Some of the most important reminders about the role of the courts don’t come from briefs or opinions. They come from conversations.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to listen to Texans talk about how the legal system intersects with their lives, whether through a business dispute, a family matter, or a question about their rights. Those conversations underscore the weight of judicial decisions and the responsibility that comes with them.
When cases come before the Texas Supreme Court, the goal is never abstract. It’s to provide clear guidance, apply the law faithfully, and resolve disputes in a way that is fair and consistent with the Constitution. That responsibility is at the center of every decision I make.
At the start of a new year, it’s fair to ask what Texans should expect from their courts.
My answer? Fairness. Consistency. And decisions grounded in the Constitution and the law as written.
Public confidence in the judiciary depends on courts that apply the law as written, respect precedent, and remain independent from pressure or politics. Those principles continue to guide my service on the Texas Supreme Court.

Our hearts are heavy as we learned former superintendent of Dallas ISD, Dr. Nolan Estes, has passed. He was a transformative leader in education, visionary educator, civil rights advocate, and deeply respected member of our community. We extend our love to the Estes family.
"If this many different judges in this many different courts appointed by this many different presidents are blocking this many policies promulgated by the same president, we ought to be able to agree that the problem is the policies—not the judges."
