This suggestion by @Kasparov63 is not war-mongering. It's a 100% defensive measure. Western countries - Poland, Sweden, Germany - should help Ukraine with defending its airspace. This will be a concrete step to bring peace closer.
The prayer book began today with the biblical theme that God differs from idols in that God is alive. Karl Barth has my favorite interpretation of this theme. In his refusal to identify God with the transcendentals of pagan philosophers (eg Plato). Truth, Goodness, Beauty etc...Barth dismisses these as dead, inert, abstractions. Christ is the living God.
So for Barth knowledge of God cannot begin with an intellectual masturbator in Plato’s academy. Some dude who, thanks to his big brain, can somehow think his way to Beauty itself. And leaves Christian theologians with the meager task of ensuring Jesus never contradicts what the pagan philosophers imagined as beautiful. For Barth everything begins with Jesus. Christ alone determines the meaning of Beauty.
As the living God, Jesus’ Beauty is not that of inert objects. Christ’s is a living Beauty. God’s Truth is alive, God’s Goodness understood in our encounter with, the revelation of, God. It is only in the way that Christ, as the living God, acts that we ever come to know the true meaning of Beauty.
AI is conscious people be like “How can you know with certainty that the stripper isn’t in love with me? From a functional perspective, how would her behavior differ if she were in love with me?”
This is the unfinished homework of 14-year-old Daniel Umansky.
On the morning of September 25, Daniel was sitting in his room in Kyiv, doing his homework.
He was writing about Volodymyr Monomakh, a ruler of Kyivan Rus, and his moral teachings written almost nine centuries ago. The assignment asked Daniel to think about how those principles might be understood today.
He wrote about respecting others, protecting the vulnerable, helping orphans, and other basic human principles.
Daniel never finished his home assignment.
At around 8 a.m., a Russian het drone struck his apartment building in the center of Kyiv.
Daniel was killed in his room. Among the wreckage of the family’s apartment, his school notebook remained open.
There is a terrible symbolism in what Daniel was writing at the moment his life was taken. A 14-year-old boy was trying to put into modern words a centuries-old principle: the strong must not be allowed to destroy the weak.
He never finished that thought. A Russian drone reached his room first. You can see the drops of blood on his school notebook.
Today, Daniel was laid to rest in Israel, where his grandparents live.
In September 2026 alone, there were 235 air alerts in Kyiv. Schools, hospitals, universities, infrastructure, and residential buildings were under deliberate Russian attacks. Hundreds of civilians were injured. Around thirty were killed. Danya was one of them. There should be responsibility. There should be just peace.
His mother was wounded in the same attack, and the family’s home was damaged.

I am a philistine who thinks both Mad Men and Sopranos are too boring. But with BB, I had to stop watching after s2 bc the whole arc was so fantastically contrived and stupid. I sat there after the season finale thinking THIS is what they wanna convince me is peak tv?
There is something wrong w you if you rank Breaking Bad with its cast of caricatures and repetitive pseudo-dramas—Jesse’s in trouble again! Will Walt save him?—over the Wire.
Such "constituent services" seem like a deeply stupid way for a us senator (and his staff) to spend their time. There are literally 100 senators. They have immense power and influence. Someone else should be helping Carla Carlson (96) get into her online bank account!!
Ossoff: My office is known for world-class service. And what amazes me is how surprised people are to be treated well.
Nancy Lancy's 81 years old in Jesup. Her husband died after years of dementia. She was worn out and alone, and now her affairs as a widow were all wrapped up in this bureaucratic labyrinth, from the VA to the IRS and Social Security. So we took care of things for her. And I'll never forget what she said about it. She said, "This was a new experience, to have someone caring about me."
How has it come to pass that for so many Americans, the experience of genuine care is rare and surprising?

🇺🇦 Zelenskyy greeted with applause in Oslo
As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy left Oslo Cathedral following King Harald V’s funeral, large parts of the crowd gathered outside greeted him with applause.
The moment came during a historic day in Norway, as royals, heads of state and international leaders gathered to pay their respects to the late Norwegian king.
Zelenskyy’s presence was clearly noticed — and the crowd’s reaction showed the strong support many people continue to express for Ukraine. 🇳🇴🇺🇦

Thank you Wordle for a delightful reminder of my first ever telenovela. I don't think I ever understood the title's meaning back then, despite my host family's vigorous attempts at illustration.

What people continuously miss is that if you are not capable of expressing something yourself, then you actually do not have something to say. You just think you do.
@kisstheblade_ Useful reminder that Trump, the most unrestrained debaucher in the history of the USA, is still just a child compared to any French. https://t.co/kbHg5Ki91O
When I was an exchange student in a tiny Panamanian town at 17, the public library had exactly two books in English: a biography of Ernest Hemingway and this monstrosity. This was not enough to make me a 3rd person. Instead I learned Spanish faster.
As a political economist, I do think that a weak Russia, torn by multiple competing factions, with nuclear warheads under contested control is less - repeat, less - dangerous than the Putin's Russia with nuclear warheads under the tight control of irresponsible, short-sighted dictator. The danger of "Russia's uncontrolled break up" is a myth; it's a manageable risk. The danger of Putin continuing its war against Ukraine and Europe is an acute danger. The focus must be on defeating the Putin's regime; what comes next is important, but not nearly as important as stopping the war - that is, defeating the Putin's regime.
However: How did poor Matt get to be SIGNIFICANTLY less gay than Steven Carrington a whole decade earlier? Steven actually got to have boyfriends (and girlfriends) whom he even hugged, starting in 1981.
I'll give them this: Courtney Thorne-Smith is a charismatic actress. Billy, in his doofusness, does come across as a somewhat recognizable, real character (paradoxically helped by Shue's lack of acting skills). But most preposterous storyline in 7 ss that Amanda would fall for him

The pre-Heather Locklear era really is a horribly dreary slog. What do you mean MP made an after school special episode about racism (instead of, idk, giving their only (great) black actress an actual storyline.)
